A comedian and an academian who consider themselves figureheads of the american left made a garishly clown-like video on whether or not a man that fought in the Colombian pan-Communist guerilla liberation movement is more right-wing than someone who admitted being an avid follower of hitler.

So Jason Hickel is a pretty legit academian but Jackson Hinkle is a dumbass grifter who tried running for city council of his Orange County beach town in 2019 on a totally incoherent platform. Apparently he opposes the OC sheriff but loves the concept of police in general, flip flops on legalizing sex work...

          https://www.sanclementetimes.com/hinkle-responds-to-criticism/

That's annoying, like if more patsoc grifters showed up named like Norm Champski and Matthew Piretti

I used to watch Dore but tbh his swing into parroting rightwing rhetoric dressed up as left populism (without any actual ideological critic) woke me up to the variety of grifters that can exist

Everyone has to immediately fall in line behind this random asshole they've never heard of, to pressure AOC to make a completely meaningless symbolic gesture, and if you don't if you don't give a shit about it then you're not a real leftist.

Oops now the random asshole is shilling horse pills.

Honestly it was a good bit, I admire reality's satire of online leftist infighting.

"Force the Vote" happened at a time when everyone was discouraged from Bernie losing and looking for a new direction (and many were looking them to distance themselves from him and the squad), and everyone was also bored af from being stuck inside due to COVID. That was a time period full of struggle sessions, because we all desperately wanted there to be drama because there wasn't anything interesting or important going on in our lives, so it was either engage with stupid internet bullshit, or go back to staring at a wall. I think half the people stanning him, at least on here where I saw it, hadn't even heard of him before Force the Vote and were just happy to have something to do.

In 2020 all you had to do was openly support Bernie and people would file you away in their brain as "left adjacent or close enough for now" and as long as you didn't do anything to make them re-access this you could skate by on that cred for along time. Dore is too great a fool to do that though so even if he hadn't latched on to the lucrative right wing grift circuit he'd be saying something else extremely stupid.

Jason Hickel is very decent at least from the takes I've seen, this guy on the other hand is just some random social media trash I literally never heard of Jackson Hinkle and its a good thing.

it’s also a fact that Petro fought in support of Rojas Pinilla

Petro joined M-19 in 1978, a left wing paramilitary group, years after Pinilla had already died in 1975 and been out of power for decades (was president 1953-1957). M-19 formed after 1970 when Pinilla and his party the National Popular Alliance/ ANAPO (left-wing party) lost the election (they claimed fraud) to the right wing candidate. You're also misrepresenting Pinilla's rule imo, and its funny you bring up the communist party when it and literally all left wing parties in Colombia are all part of Pacto Historico that Gustavo ran with.

E: actually reading through your posts youre way misrepresenting Rodolfo and its concerning people are just upvoting this distortion. Rodolfo was endorsed by all the right wing candidates and parties, and his party LIGA is just a typical populist party that has some socially liberal stances and typical neoliberal economic policies. The guy has been indicted on multiple criminal charges of corruption while he was mayor and has said some seriously heinous shit, its weird you're going to bat for the guy.

I believe that Hernandez was "Independent", but was socially pretty conservative it seems? Said he didn't believe women should be in politics, praised Hitler, things that really are unacceptable. Idk what the hell Jackson Hinkle is talking about though

            Choice excerpts

Hernández backs the fight against corruption, once admitted to being a “follower” of Adolf Hitler (which he swiftly claimed was a slip of the tongue, stating he meant Albert Einstein), says that women should remain at home and that when he assumes office, he has said he will decree what is known in Colombia as a state of internal commotion, which is essentially a state of emergency or exception

Rodolfo is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is one person campaigning and another when in administration. He is a voluble and erratic man,” she says. Morales’ voice is well-known in Colombia after an audio tape in which the former mayor is heard shouting at her and threatening to fire her was leaked. “I wipe my ass with the law,” Hernández is heard saying.

The engineer, as he likes to be called, has come under scrutiny for handing out checks among the city’s poorest inhabitants and for promising to build 20,000 houses if he was elected mayor. His commitment was to provide low-income families with a housing option and to build them with good designs because, as he likes to say, “the poor deserve the best,” but it didn’t quite work out like that. The same thing happened years earlier, with another project for the “poor,” which didn’t exactly deliver what Hernández had promised. The beneficiaries were given the option to but the houses because Hernández’s company, HG, facilitated loans to do so, but the buildings were only half-finished, completed on the outside but with exposed bricks and unfinished floors inside.

Loaning to the poorest to buy houses which they built, so brave

, even as he flies the flag for anti-corruption, Hernández stands accused of illegally awarding a waste management contract in El Carrasco. But that is only a drop in the ocean of a wider scandal known as Vitalogic, which involves his son and the payment of a seven-figure commission

The two had met to discuss a local matter, but when Claro had the temerity to mention his son’s legal issues, which will go o a trial on July 21, Hernández flew into a rage and hit him. Hernández’s own cameras recorded the whole incident

            Not impulsive as well

Aside from the fact he is a multimillionaire in colombia, I don’t know what else to say that he is full of shit and similar to trump in rhetoric

I edited my reply to you, basically saying that even if he had some cool policies it doesn't outweigh the support for working with the US to stage coups and shit out of Colombia. We'll see what Petro does but let's hope he does the right thing and supports Venezuela and Bolivia

Well, it seems like he's been misrepresented? I saw that he was a business owner and heard he said good things about Hitler, is this not a right wing guy then? What's the deal here

Edit: I saw your edit. I think support for a military dictator and cooperation with the US would probably be extremely devastating for the region. Even if he had some cool policies wrt green energy and stuff, don't think that outweighs the terrible shit that the US does wrt to Brazil, Bolivia, and Venezuela

Edit2 wow I misread this guy's edit who says Petra fought for a right wing military dictator? Huh?? I thought he was a leftist guerilla what the hell is going on
