They’re actively cracking up the country to establish their own dominions like if the german princes used Roman senate legalese to free their territorial holds from Roman fealty

I really doubt it setting yourself up as a warlord is difficult and America isn't dysfunctional to the point of allowing random people to take over portions of the country. If nothing else stopping them would provide a justification to fund the police more

well if America does ever get that dysfunctional it will essentially mean that there is no American state anymore as the state at it's fundamental level is a body of armed men enforcing the ruling class's will. Warlords are their own body of armed men and if the American can't maintain the state monopoly on violence at that level it is no longer the state

Political power comes from guns if the American state stops having the guns it stops having political power and at that point it doen't exist anymore

What’s the difference between a warlord and a sheriff in some of these small towns where the federal government has so receded it’s basically let go of the territory? And what’s the difference in 20 more years of decay?

lots of things including taxes still going to the federal/state government, the fact that if the federal/state government told them to do something or tried to get rid of them (unlikely scenario but still) they wouldn't respond with a shootout, the big one would probably be that sherifs are elected

It's a bad thing for Americans and people living in the USA, but for the rest of the world, maybe just maybe the boot won't be on our necks as hard.

Unless balkanized Texas-Florida region declares war on Cuba or something, or decides to turn to posadism...

environmental damage doesn't care about borders to some degree it may be localised but the whole world will feel some effects from the destruction of US ecosystems

Yes and no, on one hand there won't be any food and probably lots of people will die, but on the other hand I might be able to shoot fascists and get away with it.

I know it doesn't make it good, because there would be a lot of suffering all around before it happened, but the Texas Florida region would get stomped, and that thought brings me a little joy

destroying the land, air, and water will eventually destroy the state as to have a state you have to be capable of agriculture and the air not to be poison.

That being said that's not a very desirable outcome

basically that's what the US constituion says. It's why America is so dysfunctional this country was literally set up in order for there to be a legal entity that could be responsible for paying the pensions of the continental army as well as the war debt for the american revolution

        and congress is structured accordingly

Cool, Texas’ environmental agency has a super incestuous revolving door relationship with our oil and gas industry, they already got away with too much but fuck

The irony of Texas and Florida inevitably using this as carte Blanche to whatever the fuck they want despite being two states that will see some of the worst effects of climate change lol

Environmental stuff is actually like the one thing that DeSantis isn’t the worst person in the world on. I think for totally cynical reasons: Our economy is entirely funded by tourism, not extractive industries or manufacturing, and tourists don’t like gross polluted places.

He’s still the person I fear most in contemporary US politics
