      Because all the "Catholics aren't Christians" Evangelicals have flocked to the Republican party. That and many historic nonwhite Europeans (Irish, Italian, Polish) were Catholics.

      Many imigrant communities are heavily Catholic and many democrats are descended from earlier immigration waves. Biden loves to talk about how Irish he is.
