Haha yeah…the things we believe as children :side-eye-1: :side-eye-2:
It's not exactly a major gap in someone's knowledge their Italian is just a little rusty maybe they don't have coffee that often
I put a sport cup to my face thinking it a was a facemask. Guessin that's how I caught the gay :shrug-outta-hecks:
Also used to think “the black market” was an actual physical location you could go to and there would be like vendors with stalls sell guns and drugs and shit.
eyyy! same!
Same here! Though ofc they do exist. well, the vendors. There's no Sunday farmer's market equivalent of the black market. I did visit a "black market" in Beijing, where they sold almost solely counterfeit clothing and the like. Was a whole 4 story building.
There’s no Sunday farmer’s market equivalent of the black market.
Reminds me of the older Animal Crossing games where the fox would set up a
BlackMarket tent in your town.
only kind of related but the first time i ever had shrimp at someone else's house they left the shell on to serve it. apparently my mother had always taken it off before serving for ease of eating but uh, i didn't realize it had a shell at all.
it was a very crunchy experience and everyone had a good laugh at my expense.
I was trying to make some point or another in a minor argument when I was 10, and I said "and furthermore" and my parents couldn't stop laughing and I never got to say whatever my point was.
espresso is derived from latin expressus, from which english express is also derived
Fuckin Italians, they call Florence Firenze but they're like the only language that does. Even the Romans called it Florentia. All these other countries call it a variation of Flore-something and Italians call it Firenze and turn expresses to espresso.
They don't really have them in Canada anymore but I think they still might in the US. It's just a little tray with "take a penny, leave a penny" on it. People will leave pennies in it if they don't want change or out of a communal obligation, people would take pennies if they don't want to break a dollar or just need a couple cents more. Shitty owners would just take it all every once in a while but most just let it stay out. It was like a communal pool of small change.
Yeah, kinda, just spread out over time. You wouldn't just swap your pennies with ones you liked better which is what op thought as a kid but nothing was really stopping you from that either.
I never really said it out loud to be laughed at. We had a Mercury and a Saturn brand car growing up, so I thought cars were named for planets. We got a Subaru later and I'm like "where the fuck is planet Subaru?"
Yeah I learned that a few years ago, like "yeah at least it's a celestial body!" But I don't know if that extends to Ford, etc, and... Tesla. :cringe:
As a kiddo, I always pronounced "girl" as "grill" and "reply" as "ripley"
Thought that saying was “grapevines think alike” instead of great minds because I only heard family say it and assumed it was referencing family trees. Always hated it
