Its both. If you look at the death star officers you can see a similar design that leans more into the german influence, but they're both essentially a hodge podge and blend just like everything else in star wars. Darth Vader is a space nazi samurai.

Yeah I never heard of a wehrmacht connection. It certainly makes sense it would be an influence as well. Though for ww2 influences Vader was very much inspired by the villain of the serial The Fighting Devil Dogs, The Lightning
