"a growing number of people are pulling up grass..." :dean-smile:
"...and laying down artificial turf." :dean-frown:
why do people want a perfectly trimmed suburban lawn, it looks lifeless and ugly
False sense of control that suburbanites were programed into desiring starting in the 50's
Fairly confident my grandma loses sleep thinking about brown spots and weeds in her lawn.
Because it shows that you're an upstanding citizen who cares about presenting themselves well. That's what I always heard from boomers in the suburbs who got furious anytime people allowed weeds to grow longer on their lawn.
Weeds are a social construct. Except weed, which is a social lubricant
Weeds are a social construct
well yeah a weed is a plant in the wrong place what counts as the wrong place obviously needs to be decided by society
the truth is home owners associations are nazis and will force everyone in a community to do this even if they want gardens instead
well the vast majority of compaints to the Stasi were about people doing their laundry on the wrong day. On the other hand East Germany was an actually functional society unlike America
It began as conspicuous consumption and now it's considered essential to the maintenance of a higher-class, higher-economic status aesthetic.
They break the fascist notion of a perfect, all green lawn. There can be no colors, all must be uniform. All else are weeds and must be destroyed by any means necessary
the only colors will be the rainbow yard sign that says Hate Has No Place Here
there's definitely something there suburbia seems built around a postcard of a nuclear family having a barbeque with short grass and a dog and anything that breaks with that image must be ruthlessly cut out and removed. Somehow they don't understand that spending time with your family is no longer pleasant if you're spending it ruthlessly and obsessively trying to force your family to fit into a specific image of the family you saw on tv once
ngl one of my favorite things about the springtime is seeing the little random crocuses pop up in people's lawns around my neighborhood
If anyone ever does this near me I'm installing a parabolic reflector on my roof to melt dicks into it with focused sunlight
Pulling up grass
:sicko-hair:
and laying down artifical turf
:monke-rage:
YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!! PUT IN NATIVE PLANTS I'LL FUCKING KILL YOUMan, you'd think the so-called "proud warrior viking demi-god race" would AT LEAST have better taste. Do they have ANY sense of culture beyond causing suffering to those they deem as weak? Don't get me wrong, I know there are white people that this doesn't imply to, and they're not the problem. I'm talking to the idiots on /pol/ who think that they're Saiyans or some shit.
could just leave the dirt alone or fill in rocks but no, gotta find a way to get OIL involved here
Artificial grass is all made from oil, like this is worse for the environment than just watering your lawn.
But seriously the first act of the American Soviet should be to naturalize everyone's lawn, if you live in fucking Arizona your lawn should be sand and bare rock.
reeducation but just trying to explain to people that they live in a desert and can't therefore have an English style garden
Chemically there's probably nothing different between this and litter on the side of the road, except that litter at least served a purpose once in it's life
Reading that gave me whiplash.
Wtf is wrong with clover and dandelions and shit?
It's hard to fathom the :grillman: frame of mind when it comes to grass. Both innocent and sexy, there's nothing that gets your average :lmayo: more rock hard than seeing a field of lush green, and much like their views on race get very upset when undesirables start mixing into the herd.
there’s nothing that gets your average more rock hard than seeing a field of lush green
everybody likes seeing lush green, most people don't like seeing dried out white plants
it's just that :grillman: is obsessed with a particular type of lush green, and insists the whole field needs to be only that and nothing else
I actually really like grass for a garden but grass on it's own is boring as is short grass. Plus if grass doesn't grow where you live grass shouldn't be grown where you live
Times are tough, what ever will I do with this high quality irrigated land I am surrounded with? I know! Plastic carpet!
Or you could just plant shit that will actually grow in the climate you live in.
American land for American crops if you don't like it leave
