Simmons, the researcher, said these influencers are selling a lifestyle that offers a tantalizing alternative for women aiming to escape a life of dead-end 9-to-5s, especially in what they see as a bleak economic climate. And many are tapping into their resentment against a brand of feminism that hasn’t felt inclusive, or that simply hasn’t fulfilled its promise.
“But I’m not sure that turning yourself into a project to seduce a man is empowering at all,” Simmons said. “It just provides a kind of quick and easy solution to a few women, but it doesn’t liberate women as a whole.”
mmm... if only there was a political project that liberates men and women together as a whole, instead of just few. Oh, well.
These traditionalists still cling to the notion of a single income family wage despite capitalism having done away with that arrangement nearly half a century ago. They are so unaware of their own contradictions.
Also, it's nauseating how HR/resume mindset has mutated all social relations in the last 20 years. I can only imagine there must be preschools that require the toddlers to show 10 years experience at the interview.
been putting headphones on my tummy playing baby einstein for my eggs for years in case i ever decide to have a kid so that they can have an advantage in admissions
Don't forget trueanon episodes. Never too early to learn the trueanon rules.
Finally leaving the hospital with my large infant son only for him to start scream crying when we walk past the helipad
already gets blasted from speakers loud enough for eggs and neighbours to hear
the headphones are to isolate baby einstein so it doesn’t reach my ears
This practice of playing music to pregnant stomachs has to die out sooner or later.
Weird trad angle aside it's so funny for your answer to rising cost of living is to date someone who can support a whole family on a single pay cheque. I'm sure finding such a partner would be easy with rising cost of living and all.
Can't afford rent without working insane hours? Have you tried being rich?
ShowMy thoughts have been going in the opposite direction, I'm going to have to start a polycule commune to afford a place to live soon
The bourgeoisie will force us into the polycules we hunt them with
Persistence hunting worked best with multiple hunters as it is.
i think the basic vibe is that by narrowing what you accept psychologically as living an acceptable life, these people can protect themselves by narrowing the amount of people they see as, well, people.
I read it more as broadening what you'd accept as long as they come with fat stacks
Talk about a recipie for success!
Most guys can't afford me, but hundreds of men have agreed to timeshare me.
fuck it, we need to move back to a real traditional society. gender androgynous monks living in geographically inaccessible locations dispensing wisdom to weary pilgrims.
See it as a business.
My sister in Christ, not only are you the part of the problem, but you're volunteering to be the bag-holder.
I have yet to meet any sort of trad whatever who wasn't obviously using it as a shield to be lazy as fuck about some common responsibility and wanting to avoid any explanation or negotiation.
Life advice: Put a price tag on yourself. See yourself as a commodity. This will make you feel fulfilled in life
Also completely tie your material well-being to one guy you have deliberately not picked based on character, fucking marry that guy, hope that he makes enough money to support a family on his own in this economy, and be prepared to lack a decade or two of working experience when you inevitably get divorced from that asshole and are stuck with his kids while he tries everything he can to dodge alimony payments. If you at least learned anything that allows you to hold down a job in the first place, god forbid if you went all in on this shit and dropped out because your plan was to get pregnant from him as soon as possible.
Liberal feminism's approach of "just get a career and kids in a capitalist hellscape without proper child day care and abhorrent working conditions" was and is and will always be awful, but at least it's miles better than this tradwife death trap.
Reading this article made me mad and watching a few of the videos made me madder, to the point where if I had a TikTok, I would do a They Live-style duet with them
Fucking good luck. When i was a man I was a provider like this for a year and it was absolutely brain melting. I slowly lost money even though I make good money, because rent was so damn high and food and e erythjng was so expensive. I could not do it on my own. How about fucking landlords stop stealing all our money then we can talk about this being a possibility
That being said if rent was just lower then I could have afforded it. Rent just absolutely destroyed me
If I didn't have to put half my income toward rent I would have probably settled down with a family by now even despite being trans. It's painfully thinking what I could have done if I hadn't had to give various landlords close to $200,000 through my adult life (I'm not even old).
It's not much better mortgaging. We bought our first home 18 years ago with a 20% down payment, and we currently own... 42% of it. The amount we've paid already exceeds the full price of the home. By a lot.
Ehhhh marriage is older than capitalism surely, but it definitely changed it.
It's almost as if eliminating class politics from ideologies of liberation ends up with resentment as those ideologies end up feeding you into the meat grinder.
...are the cishets okay? It sounds like they're REALLY in these trenches out here.
more than 1 million followers on TikTok
ok maybe banning TikTok is actually not a bad thing
So I don't disagree with your assertion that the apps are a dumpster fire and terrible for everyone but:
I also don't think that the idea of "Just go ask someone you fancy in person when you go out" is really a viable alternative for multiple reasons.
For one: having trouble finding it right now but there was a poll I saw a while back that a majority of women polled consider being asked out in public "sexual harassment". Not annoying or inappropriate mind you but straight up harassment. Anecdotally I know multiple women in my life that all hate being approached in public and especially today have to do an impromptu threat assessment on whether or not the man is going to be able to take rejection well. That isn't even getting into whether or not they're looking for a romantic partner in the first place.
For two: meeting new people in today's atomized neoliberal hell as a working adult is hard. Like....really hard. I feel like I shouldn't even have to elaborate on this especially on this site.
The apps are so awful but at least when you match with someone in them you both know you're looking for some kind of relationship and they at least found you attractive at first glance.
