The no military stuff seems to only apply to stuff made after WWI. There were sets with 1880s US military equipment (rifles and cannons). As someone else said, there were WWI era fighters too.
Also they're completely fine with fake war as in Star Wars too. They're more clearly avoiding "political" wars then war itself.

Yeah, the line has moved from when they started. Original Lego had a yellow castle because they didn't want kids to make tanks from grey parts. They now have made the WW1 plane set and a few Lego Nazi minifigures from Indiana Jones, although without any explicit imagery.
I mean they also have pirate ships and medieval castles, all depicting top of the line weapons of their time.
