Chili oil goes hard
Fun fact: Tao Huabi (the creator of the chili oil) is a member of the Communist Party of China and is also a National People's Congress deputy. The chili oil business was only possible because the CPC village committee where Tao lived (and was not a party member at the time) allowed her to borrow two buildings to start production.
This could be a judgement zone and everyone with taste would still back you up on Lao Gan Ma condiments
I'm team sambal oelek, myself, but I respect your personal choice.
Sambal is a lot easier to get here than chili oils when it comes to regular ass grocery stores so I usually use that as well.
The first thing i saw on google was 14 dollars on amazon which is a lot but also various ~4 dollar offerings and also a 2pk on amazon for the same price as the first one. 7 dollars each is a lot for a fancy spice but it's not like crazy expensive if you really want it

Edit i think i fixed the link to remove referrals
Look i don't know how to edit that link to remove referrals butthat one's 4.75 for 7.4oz. Just gotta buy 40 dollars worth for free shipping, lolThat’s a 2pk of the ultra-small bottles, not the regular. You can’t just look at individual units but the price per Fl oz.
Is 7.4oz ultra small? That's the one I'm seeing. I guess it is kinda small but I've got an 8oz thing of a similar vietnamese chili-garlic product and it's lasted me literally over a year (but I usually only put like a tablespoon into things because I can't handle much spice)
I'm just saying you don't have to live without if this is that enjoyable to you
they've got one with fermented soybeans in it thats so fucking good, the soybeans almost taste chocolately
Making your own = super delicious and easy. Do the kind with a bunch of whole spices in it.
My local pan-asian market doesn't carry this. However my local discount market does. It's strange and bussin tho
My grandma use to make something similar, we still have the recipe but can't make it becuase frying all those spices and chilli peppers makes the air inside the apartment really spicy for like three days. She lived in rural China so she could cook a years supply all at once in a giant outdoor wok. I have to buy the bottled chilli crisp and add szechuan peppercorn oil to it.
