Yeah that would suck to be trapped in a job you hate because you have no choice in the matter. Good thing this doesn't happen in non-socialist countries.
:doomer:
Not to think too hard about a dumb meme, but it's really funny that they can't imagine a world where art production isn't restricted to a professional class. like the point is to reduce work hours so that creative expression is a viable leisure activity for everyone.
I don't think leisure is the right word. Art is fundamental to being human, I honestly think one of the greatest crimes of capitalism is crushing the artistry out of people. And it does this one every single level of society from third world children forced into the sweatshop all the way up to the ceo's son forced to be a business ghoul and give up on music. There's obviously still people that do art, but it becomes so hard for most people to.
It's famously easy to be a poet in a capitalist society. That's why people not born into wealth do it all the time.
and for a whole 10 or 20 hours a week, no less! that barely leaves you 92 hours each week for your hobbies and self-care after accounting for sleep!
can you imagine being trapped for even more time??
I wouldn't mind working a shitty job if that shitty job would ease the tension of future financial uncertainty and gave me plenty of leisure time. I don't even think I'll see that level of socialism in my life time, truthfully I'd settle for orienting production forces into not ending the world maybe.
I always wondered about this. Mines are already industrialized, and need very few people to man the equipment. Do these people think that after a revolution, the state would be like "These machines are blasphemy! We must return to canary!"
Communism is when u go back to the technology level of the USSR in the 30s 😔
That's why it wasn't socialist after Stalin died, they advanced the machines.
I was just reading an article on Australia's mining industry having a major labor shortage because zoomers have read too many stories about them polluting huge swathes of areas or destroying aboriginal heritage sites with explosives to expand an iron mine.
Even the "hard labour" in a commune would not be nearly as intensive or extensive as exploited labourers under capitalism. Plus you get to enjoy and see your comrades enjoy the fruits of your labour.
so cool living in a capitalist system where there’s not a gun to the back of your head demanding that you give up on all dreams of creative expression at all times
No, you don't get it. Under capitalism, everyone grows up to be an Astronaut and nobody has to work two retail jobs to keep a roof over their head.
I think the idea that all real jobs should involve hard hats is silly some of the industrial jobs I've had have been producing dumbass nonsense.
If we were assigning labor to what's important to society agricultural work would likely be the focus
all real jobs should involve hard hats. miner? hardhat. barista? hardhat. artist? also hardhat.
communism is doomed because lefties don't know how to talk to the real working class
All hardhats should look like flatcaps and anyone who does any form of labor should have to wear one
Just looked that up, I've been calling them driver's caps my whole life, never knew they were called something else
You never know when you're gonna lean forward and jerk up and hit your head on a cabinet or something, it's happened to me
Lol at the meme, but seriously, how much mining or other dangerous labor do they expect to be done when there's no profit motive involved?
And without the profit motive pushing people to rush, cut corners, or work excessive hours, it's not like these jobs would be nearly as horrible.
If the goal is just getting enough to meet needs, we're not going to be burning ourselves out like we do now. We wouldn't just be building luxury apartments all the time or growing food to sell at a premium.
What a shallow view of the world.
Id rather be a miner, writing good poetry is hard and writing bad poetry is embarrassing :deeper-sadness:
it's easier to toil in the dark depths of the earth than the dark depths of the human soul
e: probably not but you get my point
https://existentialcomics.com/comic/452
nah poetry is way easier than hard labor
The capitalist version would give you a Walmart name tag so at least we're getting a trade
