"As a data guy, let me tell you why you don't need extra employees to deal with an overwhelming amount of online orders"

Shitting on minimum wage workers is as American as apple pie

The secret to being a good data guy is to arbitrarily stop adding new data to your analysis.

The real skill is in figuring out what the higher ups want the data to say. They hate saying it explicitly or telling you explicitly to massage it. But if you don't read the tea leaves they'll just find a new data guy.

no need to see the underlying data, if it was done this way in the past, it must be the correct way

Ah yes, the data will save us. When hospitals are demanding nurses do 2x the job that a pre-covid era nurse did, they're just looking at the data and seeing that it's actually just a different kind of workflow, not that they're doing the job of two nurses. The company isn't just seeing increased profits and going brr. :brrrrrrrrrrrr:

Last week at work we were adequately staffed for the first time in ages and everyone noted how morale increased significantly, but that was because one of the schedule people went a bit rogue and let everyone work that wanted to since most of the staff are float. They've since made it clear that they're going back to running a skeleton crew for no good reason because they clearly can afford the staff and the staff is available. Better to just work your workers to the point of quitting en masse as they have been and hemorrhaging staff.
