Has anyone else noticed articles pushing for games to be $70? No one in real life actually wants this.

Most AAA games already cost >$100, they just split it into multiple purchases.

I played CK3 for an hour before realizing this and that it's just a re-skinned vanilla CK2 lol.

To be fair, MMOs are like that too.

Not sure where you got that. I like 3 a lot better than 2. Also it definitely includes features from CK2 DLCs like Conclave's council and Way of Life's educating children (I think).

The only things that really feels like it's missing is stuff from the later DLCs like plagues from Reaper's Due and secret societies from Monks and Mystics. But that doesn't really take away from the game.

At least CK3 feels like a finished game so far, though.

That's why I don't rag on them too much. Right now CK3 feels like a finished game, and it pretty much is. But when they announce the first expansion it will start feeling like the game needs whatever new mechanic it adds.

I haven't because I don't read shitty sites. But I was curious and ugh... They go into the rising cost of development or inflation. But don't talk about how CEOs at AAA publishers have been enriching them selves while leaving their employees out to dry.

That is a competitive advantage for the indie games industry. I want this.

The only game I'm really annoyed about it being expensive is HL:Alex cause like $1000.

More pissed that rolling releases have made piracy such a fomo experience.

yeah companies rolling out fixes and updates slowly must be deliberate to encourage platforms like steam and discourage pirating

I think many companies also release broken games just to see if those flop, before deciding to pay off their technical debts.

And DLC has the complete exact opposite effect on me; because with piracy everything is included anyway.
I don't even consider getting games on Steam if those have too much DLC, it is guaranteed fomo or buyer's remorse.

Yeah ive made the mistake of paying 5 bucks for eu4 and i got it to work with creamapi for a while but the nthe launcher started to break completely (configuration file not found) and you have to always mess with the cracks and now i need to update all the dlc files it wasnt worth it i should have just waited for the cracked versions to appear

not op but honestly I just got less interested in the new shit because it became less fun and more encouragement to buy more shit either through the grind or through tons of bullshit dlc or cosmetics or anything else. I still enjoy a couple games like minecraft, terraria, and tboi but overall I got out involuntarily. also breaking my wrist lead to me not playing games for a long time and that kind of loosened the amount of importance they had to me.

Yeah I get that feeling a lot of time, I think my main obstacle is that I don't have the motivation or discipline to do my other hobbies like creative writing, reading and exercise for an extended amount of time regularly. For writing I need to be in a certain mindset/get motivated, how long I can read is really dependent on how much I'm enjoying the book, and more exercise requires more self-discipline, of which I have fuck all. At least that's what my excuses in my head are for defaulting to video games since it's easy to do and doesnt require much brain power at all

I was feeling bad about it to begin with, and then I took a 17 credit load while working. I realized that I had to choose between gaming and seeing anyone in my life and at that point the choice was easy.

When next month starts I'm gonna be doing the same, too fucking bad I'm an American with sickly grandparents lol I'm hoping there'll be a point in time where being in work/school and its safe to see my friends in full capacity again before my uni reverts to completely in-person, at that point I'll prob make the same decision u did :)

Is it because I really only play indie games that I just don't think this is a problem? I don't think I've ever paid more than $30 for a game, ever. And most are in the $5-10 range with steam sales.

Occasionally I'll even buy a game I feel bad having spent so little for. Hollow Knight and FTL come to mind.

I've noticed those too. They're like "sure the gaming industry is full of exploitation and inhumane crunch time. And a few years ago Activision layed off a fuck ton of employees on their best financial year just to increase shareholder payouts and a executive bonuses. But have you considered that giant publisher corporations want more money?"
