:sadness:
Hopefully this sparks a major change in safety standards? I'm at least expecting more to change in China than changed here in the UK post-Grenfell.
China did good with the expropriation of land, but it's time to expropriate the stuff built on that land
A terrible tragedy. While strict building standards do increase the cost of construction a lot, they've been a dramatic success for reducing things like fires and collapses from earthquakes. I hope that China is able to start investing in durable, high-quality construction for their new buildings. High quality infrastructure is worth it.
Heard from Chinese users on social media that this building was built in the year of 2000, and at that time, the regulation standard isn't really that good and eternal wall insulation materials were mostly foam beads. But anyway, the telecom infrastructure department have to responsible, but thankfully everyone was able to organizely get out in time.
A fire engulfed a skyscraper in the central Chinese city of Changsha, with authorities saying that no casualties had yet been found.
The blaze broke out in a 42-floor building housing an office of the state-owned telecommunications company China Telecom, according to the state broadcaster CCTV.
Office floor, no casualties, good to hear.
I'm pretty confident that if Grenfell had happened in China those responsible would have been shot.
