I don't think "persecuted Jew" and "literal nazi" really fit into the whole "two households both alike in dignity" thing

This is a fucking Producers scheme. You cannot convince me otherwise. They’re doing the Springtime for Hitler gambit and they’re not even trying to be subtle about it.

the M has a fucking Reichsadler on it and they dotted the i with a Star of David. It has to be.

I refuse to believe they're sincerely doing a “Can true love brew between the Auschwitz cell bars?” bit. This has to be a grift. Please be a grift. If it's sincere it's fucking magnitudes worse than even something as brain-broken as Anastasia :what-the-hell:

This play makes Anastasia look like history itself

Honestly surprised they didn't go for calling it Romeo and Jewliet

I mean, that's about the level of clever at work here

So am I stupid or are they saying that the problem is that no Jewish people were cast? I could think of a few other problems:yikes:

from what i understand of british tabloid culture the telegraph is likely frustrated that they couldn't find an og scion of nazi germany to play romeo

the phrasing makes it seem like the casting call didn't explicitly mention they were looking for Jewish actors, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's also the case that they didn't cast any.

also i'd bet that this is a tiny production that the British press decided to make hay out of

Juliet seducing a nazi then faking her death to trick the him into killing himself would be a pretty good bit actually.

I mean, did they intentionally not hire Jewish people, or did Jewish actors see the premise of the play and nope the fuck out of it? Either way what the fuck.

Making a Romeo and Julie adaption but changing the setting to try and be “clever” should be illegal.

Just do West Side Story FFS!

But West Side Story basically is a Romeo and Julie adaption but changing the setting already.
