Was bored at work and ended up reading something about vitamin deficiencies caused by some ADHD medications (from what I remember Adderall and Vyvanse). Among those listed was magnesium deficiency being a possible side effect. Went and bought a supplement last week and it's noticeably improved two different minor health problems I was dealing with (constipation and excessive popping in joints, particularly my wrists).
Bowel movements are now effortless and my wrists are much quieter. It's kinda crazy how drastic the change was. Can't find the original article I was reading but googling Adderall magnesium deficiency brings up a few different things to read.
Honestly I think pretty much everyone should try supplementing magnesium. Estimates vary but some huge portion of the US population is deficient without knowing it. There are different forms of supplemental magnesium - if anyone wants to try a combo that is high quality to quickly see if any form helps, I'd recommend OptiMag Neuro.
Whatever you get, just make sure it is magnesium chelate. That's the most bioavailable form.
Yeah this will be labelled magnesium citrate as opposed to magnesium oxide. Careful though, too much mag citrate will act as a laxative.
Zinc is also a common deficiency for adhd! Taking zinc has noticeably reduced my anxiety. I got tested for it several years ago and have been taking it ever since. Its good to take b6 or a b complex along with it because increasing zinc can lower b6.
Magnesium has a lot of anecdotal reports for improving sleep quality and helping with anxiety and restlessness, particularly from ADHDers.
I haven't looked into studies on it to back this up but it's cheap and fuck it, y'know, if it feels like it's working then go nuts.
Most magnesium can cause diarrhoea so taper up on it slowly so you don't accidentally shit yourself and avoid big doses or taking a full dose then forgetting about it for 5 days before taking another full dose because you might be in for a bad time if you do.
I also haven't looked into bioavailability stuff but be aware that there are a lot of ADHDer lifestyle grifters who peddle expensive boutique magnesium which they claim is especially bioavailable. Don't fall for the bullshit.
Zinc and magnesium are co-factors so you might consider supplementing both as well.

Hmmm, you could work with this high... Like, literally work: Solve the case, file some papers. Maybe clean up your hostel room, then solve another case, then start a side investigation into the para-natural, then build a radiocomputer...

Yep, same situation here but lithium's my poison. I feel like an old man worrying every day about my bowel movements. My blood work just came back today and I'm on the threshold of magnesium deficiency (along with some thyroid weirdness which compounds this issue).
I've always been very poppy but in the last few months I could bend each wrist up and then down and get a loud pop every couple of minutes.
