Last time we had a big protest movement was the summer of BLM, and everyone remembers how incredibly successful that was at inciting change in our institutions and can't wait to replicate that for other issues we care about.

Largest protest movement since Vietnam, perhaps even bigger if my dumb ass is correct. Huge indictment of the system and especially boomer motherfucks that act like they saw or heard "real" civil strife as a way to downplay current events.

Because the ruling class learned from the Civil Rights movement. After the complete PR nightmare that was the world seeing unarmed black protestors being beaten by white police The American system began to specifically set itself up in such a way that a single blemish can ruin your entire prospects or life. While also working to demonize protestors so that a both sides argument can come out that cripples support.

Case in point: Back in 2018 March for our lives was at full steam. With a lot of traction and huge turnout and support amongst students of all ages and most of the country. Entire senior classes walked out of schools. The result? High schools started giving them suspensions and ruining their records. Damaging their chances to get into college.

At the same time fox posted a story about a kid who was supposedly punished for not going to a protest (he refused to follow instructions and go to study hall with other students not participating) which had the intended result of demonizing the protestors and giving credence to the “media and academia controlled by loony leftists” BS

Because the US isn’t a real democracy, but that fact hasn’t fully sunk in enough to where a large number of people start considering alternatives and there are no mainstream groups or public figures leading them to consider (viable) alternatives. So they complain, protest, and VOTE, but nothing ever changes.

Lol my high school did publically protest after Parkland, and we got shouted at and spit on by literal adults. Facist parents keep the children in line

Agreed, but I would say that it's more like that if you're 40 and under, American society is hostile to you. Housing is a luxury these days and so is renting, cost of living in cities where you are more likely to find both other young people and just some things to do is astronomical, and we celebrate this as a good thing. Meanwhile college tuition is rising and rising even though a bachelor's degree has less value. Bachelor's are treated as the new high school diploma and this applies to jobs too. Entry-level jobs are now a thing of the past and you are expected to get an internship and work for free for a couple of years to get experience. Companies need to try before they buy, after all.

Shit sucks. If I go back to college or go into grad programs, you bet your ass I'm going to look at some programs overseas. I just wanted to have some friends, make a decent income in a job I can live with, find a nice partner and eventually raise a kid or two in a townhouse and enjoy my life, that's it.

They're libs. Their political imagination doesn't extend beyond electoralism and empty whining. They could go chain a gun shop shut at any time but they simply can't imagine doing anything. They're completely useless.

Also banning guns is stupid baby brain bullshit. There are 400,000,000 guns in the country. All the killers are right wing. There's no way to get rid of the guns and the problem isn't the guns the problem is right wing men. But they're all so brain poisoned on liberal civility and :freeze-peach: they can't even conceptualize the idea of one political ideology and one political faction being violent and destructive and needing to be suppressed.

Americans are largely white supremacists who want to believe they live in a superior civilization. Any viable alternative has been pioneered and implemented by those disgusting foreigners who are always getting in the way of our bombs.

Because that's just the way it is, sweaty. Gun violence is an act of nature that cannot be mitigated, just like COVID, or capitalism.
