Can confirm. I cycle through usernames, writing styles, and personalities every couple months. I've been here for at least a year in actuality.

For opsec reasons: Don't get too attached to one account.

The number of 2-year-old accounts that had issue with my basic-marxist position on "art for art's sake is a bourgeois invention, all art is routed in social forms and thus political" take a month ago was surprising. They also weren't super-active, they made basic posts every 2-4 weeks, maybe, sometimes a couple months of inactivity. But somehow were called to action to dogpile me and call me a Twitter-lib for, like, the most basic Marxist takes on art. Has me suspicious.

I honestly see treat defenders and people complaining about how you should "let people have fun" far more in online spaces than irl. Treat defenders and treat defending don't really exist irl, at least in my own personal experience. I've seen far more celeb and sports defending among my coworkers. Let's put it this way: people aren't going to start throwing hands because you said Game of Thrones has gratuitous nudity and violence or the sequels are worse than the prequels. But talk shit about someone's favorite team, especially if they're a serious fan and you're a fan of the rival team? Yeah, you're going to get a very different response than calling their childhood cartoon a glorified toy commercial.

So many of you guys and its hard to keep anyone straight, other than the handful of power posters - Ulysses, DirtOwl, NeeraTanden, etc.

I'll pour one out for the fallen, but honestly if you learned to log the fuck off and touch grass I assume you've Left Omelas and are in a better place.

I had to look through the modlog because I even forgot. The final straw was them defending imperialist troops in Vietnam, pulling out the typical argument of "oh they didn't have a choice, they were drafted, they were just heckin poor bois who didn't really hate the foreigners uWu"

Before that they were unironically calling people tankies. In the year of our lord 2021 on hexbear dot net :what-the-hell:

Yeah, there are definitely some people I wish I could have gotten closer with, but with the need for opsec and all it's tough. I've been lucky to be friendly with a few people on here and it's nice when things fall into place like that

Do not, my friends, become addicted to keeping your account...

For real, this account of mine is not great for opsec. I try to be careful, but when you have over 6k comments through 2.5 years... someone with enough dedication or some AI program could probably get more information about me than I'd be comfortable with.

Once we get out of bunker mode I plan on reviewing all my comments and scrubbing out anything remotely personal. Then I plan on retiring this account (not deleting it, just not using it) and starting a new one. But that's at least gonna take me a full day, maybe more. I'd also like to only ever use Hexbear when I'm on a VPN because I haven't been consistent with that on this account.

I wish I just created new accounts instead of sticking with this one the whole time, would have been a lot easier. I definitely encourage you all to do that.

Hope folks have been sticking around under new accounts.

But I do miss EugeneVDabs (don't we all) and JoeySteel; even though with Joey they just couldn't keep the lid on the sectarianism and they sourced Grover Furr way more than I would have liked, they always were super informative.

Before the bunker mode change you just had to click "next" and then reload the page, then it would load your old comments

Yeah, I decided to delete my couple years old :reddit-logo: account about a week ago. Of course, I went out in style and got my ass permabanned.

I still keep around a main for hobbies and non-political stuff. :reddit-logo: sucks but at least the hobby subreddits aren't half bad. I supplement with those until I find niche forums that I like, such as this one

Here's a handy reddit account and comment overwrite script. It looks complicated but I figured it so I'm sure most people can. https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite

Right but I don't want to delete my comments, just remove specific information. I'm not saying I'm some wise sage of communism but you never know what posts and comments others might find helpful. I don't mind taking a day for that.

It's kind of a bummer when people do that. I had some comments starred to go back to, and when I did, they were gone because the account was deleted.

A guy posted as Jar Jar Binks and roleplayed about how big his blue balls were. Completely in character.

I think about him and worry about what on earth would drive a man to such depths of madness.

Someone made an alt to say they had terminal cancer. I think about them sometimes; they were really worried about their family and I wonder how they're doing. Other than that, I have a tendency to not even look at user names (which is why @neera_tanden tricks me every time), so I don't really have much of an attachment to particular people aside from the ones who do funny bits, since that makes their character names stick in my head.
