Is your general rank and file reddit foot soldier really that desperate to convince the public that Musk is a benevolent Tony Stark like genius who earned his $200 billion and not a petty manchild moron parasite fascist?

I feel like there should be some proverb about a man who loses $140B inside a year relative one who lives a year on $14,000

When China builds humanity's first colony on the moon, they should send Chen Wei Hua up there to dunk on Elon from space.

when China puts the first human on Mars, it'll be a decade later and 99% of americans will have never heard of it.

Nonsense. I can already see the headlines:

"Mars Attacks! China Declares War on Red Planet, May Turns Eyes Toward Earth Next!"

"Did Chinese Dictator-for-Life Li Keqiang just violate a 100 year old Space Treaty by putting Chinese soldiers on Mars?"

"How the Chinese Space Program Succeeded where Americans Failed: The Case for a Racially Homogeneous Government"

"First Woman On Mars. A Tale of Triumph in the Face of Adversity and One Incredible Woman's Struggle Against the Misogynists in Beijing"

The "intelligent-design" people will try to bring back geocentrism at some point, resulting in huge swaths of the US losing ability to produce people who care about space stuff.

At the very least, he should take off into space and dunk Musk from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Here's your regular reminder that for all its pretensions of being rebellious and outsider, hacker culture is largely the domain of white men who have both considerable time and money to sink into their hobby, and therefore it's going to trend right-wing and reactionary.

My friend tried to get me into that site once, as he claimed it's better than :reddit-logo: , but everytime I try to read anything there, I get an uncontrollable urge to shove nerds into lockers and I have to stop.

HN used to be better than :reddit-logo:, because it was just people talking semi-competently about startup business and the latest tech fads. It's not that the community was any better, it's that the worst tech opinion is more sufferable than the average political one.

Then HN started allowing political and news topics, which their user base is just as clueless about as reddit, with an even bigger lolbertarian streak. Then in 2020 they allowed people to "just asking questions" about the pandemic and vaccines, turned into it a safe haven for insane right-wing cranks over the course of like four months.

what were they launching, pray tell? more eyesores in the night sky?

how does anyone, governments especially, justify letting private companies colonize our view of the heavens? for products no-one fucking uses! 1 million people total are on starlink (doubtless running at a loss too lmao)

If China were the one launching these eyesores we would hear about it non-stop. It would be so fucking easy to make people mad about it if the media wanted to.

But the Chinese space agency isn't heavily invested in marginal financial returns on every new satellite with a six month shelf life they put into orbit.

If they were launching these things, they wouldn't be China. They'd be, at best, post-glasnost Russia. But since they aren't trying to leverage the profitability of the last vestiges of their socialist economy for another quarterly positive return, the Beijing central planners see no material benefit to triggering Kessler Syndrome just so some fly-by-night telecomm company can promise global coverage contingent on the Federal Reserve keeping the money faucets running.

I love the Half-Life reference at the end. Every capitalist thinks "Capitalist Flight" is some kind of debate ending threat. In the beginning of Half Life, you go into the test chamber, it seems just another test like any day, then surprise the entire world goes completely to shit and aliens invade en mass. And that's basically what would happen. The gateway to socialism will be opened in a way only a very costly world war could ever close again. Capital Flight isn't a threat, it's a gift to the working class.

I feel like it at least had the basic shape of an effective threat 15 years ago, before it became widely known how little rich people pay in taxes.

Is it really a huge surprise that SpaceX and Tesla are functioning fine even though Musk is distracted by all the Twitter bullshit of his own creation? Hell, they're probably running better than before because he's not around to fuck shit up as much. Behold the world's greatest manager.

There's rumors that they have people who hide certain key employees when he shows up to make sure they're not exposed to a random firing.

There's rumors that upper management put a lot of effort into trying to make realistic interpretations of his ideas and then make what they did instead sound like what he asked for.

Basically glorified baby sitting for the guy who basically bought a sci-fi throne thinking it would make him cool.
