Israel was always disliked in the community, but most members are too spineless to boycott their gay glitter show over a genocide. They will complain all the time but won’t do anything about it. Imo all artists that are participating should be ashamed to work with the hypocritical genocide defending organisation that is the EBU.

Why are they even in eurovision? Is it because they share the quintessentially european cultural tradition of genocidal slaughter?

The ideology of the ruling class is racialized and they have no illusions about what that means, the idea that geographic logic would hold any sway over them would make them laugh, if pressed plenty of them with admit Israel is a "civilized" European outpost in "a sea of barbarism"

Of course it doesn't stop zionists from making mangled nonsensical claims about indigeneity, the point is to disconcert and confuse their enemies

Those protests were particularly vocal after the title of Golan’s entry was announced in February: “October Rain,” an apparent reference to last year’s Hamas attacks, in which Israeli officials say about 1,200 people were killed and 240 taken hostage. The European Broadcasting Union objected that the title and some of the song’s lyrics were overly political, and asked Israel to change them. Golan tweaked the song, which is now called “Hurricane.”

just in case anyone wonders why

They had a copium article in the Swedish press the other day whereas the headline asked something along the lines "why is Israel allowed, but not Russia?" and the answer was basically some bullshit that Russian public service didn't fulfill some criteria and this has definitely nothing to do with politics, as they kept reminding you that "Eurovision is not about politics!".

It's astonishing how shitty they've managed this. They could have just... um... not done pogroms against children in a concentration camp, but I guess the fascist blood lust and death drive is too powerful to tame. Not even the most "both sides" brained lib hidden behind 7 layers of carefully curated media obfuscation can ignore the dread they feel knowing children are buried alive in the rubble.

It feels so childish. Their "now it's my big shot!" logic came out after the Hamas raids like one of those 90s game shows where you got a shopping cart and 3 minutes to get as much shit as you can. And you're at home watching some kid get like 9 of the same toy while clotheslining shelves yelling "go to the video game section you fuckwit! BE SMARTER THAN THIS!"

It's ridiculously stupid. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder if Empire's dominance really has lead to their next/this generation of legionaries/acolytes being totally inept.

It's moronic to wage an all out war, when really they could've probably turned it into a cheap labour pool like they did to Panama and El Salvador back in the day, while still maintaining total hegemony in the area. Give them their 'independence', but make sure all of their leaders are 'our [USA's] guys'. If they act up they get struck by the sanctions whip, the economic warfare that liberals are too poorly informed to understand.

People being blown up by missiles on the other hand? Liberals know it's poor optics to support that.

i'm not going to be watching this year (or at least, not live or legally) but i really do wonder how much the BBC/EBU/etc will have to cover for. like, there is a 0% chance that NONE of the young, progressive, deeply online participants will say/do something on the night, plus the crowd, plus the occasional stage invader. one performer has already been bitched at for daring to wear a keffiyeh despite the fact that he is part fucking palestinian. genuine insanity.

like, all the EBU had to do was say that israel's song wasn't good enough to qualify this year and they could have avoided all this. instead, i've now had lib friends asking me what BDS is because they heard about it in eurovision discussions che-smile

Will made a good point in the latest chapo ep. The frothing support for Isn'treal by the west is the wet dream of every anti-semite. If you do not know the ins and outs of Imperialism, you really are lead to believe that Israel, and by western definition jews, control the west.

They would be if Israel had some restraint but they decided to do a full blown ethnic cleansing which at some point becomes hard to overlook. The one and only time I watched Eurovision it was held in Tel Aviv and I remember that there was only one instance of protestation against them where a participant band displayed an anti-Israel banner. Apart from that people didn't mind much.

That said Israel hosting Eurovision was a huge flop for them, they only got a fraction of the tourists they thought they would get, there were extensive pro-Palestine campaigns to discourage people attending, though how much was that versus Europeans just not wanting to go the Middle East no matter how hard Israel tried to convince them.

I can only speak for the LGBTQIA+ crowd, but ... i mean, let's face it, that is the core audience. And there's a pretty clear split between the Queers for Palestine faction and the homonationalists, and it looks as if the latter are finally losing. This is in large parts due to queer solidarity for Palestine having already been clearly articulated way before the invasion of Gaza went underway, and calls for boycotts and an exclusion of Israel coming from that very crowd beginning as soon as the war started. What's discussed itt didn't come out of nowhere, it's been boiling up for half a year, and resting on foundations much older than that.
