Xi told Abe that if he (Xi) were american he wouldn’t join the communist party he’d join the democrats or the republicans, Abe says this is because Xi is a realist.

Is this an indictment of Xi or an indictment of every communist party in America I can't decide

whether Xi is ideologically a communist

The man has a PhD in Marxism-Leninism, I think you can look at his career and safely say he is

He is developing China towards a more socialist path when that's not necessarily the choice he could have chosen - certainly a realist (see their awful healthcare system)

This sounds like Xi knows that the US is set up to have a two party system and that even if a communist party gained traction in votes/representatives it would simply become the Democrats or Republicans without a mass movement behind it. No current leftist party in America has a mass movement to ride on or lead

Xi Jinping is nothing if not very practical

I mean he joined the same party that caused a lot of issues for his family by purging his father, so it's definitely on brand

Xi himself was sent to the countryside as a manual laborer, this is a dude who can harvest a field, write a treatise, govern a state all in one.
