and conveniently allowing the US/Europe to say "Ukraine bad now actually, we're going to stop supporting them". they've been looking for a way out for a while anyway and this may be the beginning of that

It would be extremely funny if this is how the US breaks it's support for Ukraine somehow. Blaming the Ukrainians and throwing them under the bus once defeat looks inevitable to give angry Europeans a scapegoat and themselves an easy out since they "attacked our dear and respected ally and went too far"

I wonder if they would truly turn against Ukraine or hold some lingering resentment towards them. This whole war has been sold to the Europeans pretty hard with I think Denmark treating the Zelensky plea for arms like some kind of Marvel event.

treating the Zelensky plea for arms like some kind of Marvel event.

During the first few weeks of the invasion, it was reported by western media and newsball fans that Zelensky uttered “I don’t need a ride. I need more ammunition” when he was told an armed escort arrived to pick him up. They lauded him as a brave leader who stands his ground and will sink with the ship if necessary.

A few days later, pro-Ukraine media within Ukraine reported that they asked insiders about the quote and they were perplexed by it because it never happened. This follow up was never reported by western media or the newsball fans

Officials who have reviewed the intelligence said they believed the saboteurs were most likely Ukrainian or Russian nationals, or some combination of the two. U.S. officials said no American or British nationals were involved.

The explosives were most likely planted with the help of experienced divers who did not appear to be working for military or intelligence services U.S. officials who have reviewed the new intelligence said. But it is possible that the perpetrators received specialized government training in the past.

:thonk: Gotta wonder how they can be so sure about some of these things and so unsure about others

We have changed our minds and now believe that Nord Stream was blown up using a snorkel and a bottle of coke with some menthos in it.

It's the kind of lie that falls apart when scrutiny is applied to it. The problem is that nobody seems to even bother with that.

      or British Nationals were involved

So, Britian was involved too. Damn, they could have just not mentioned britian at all in that sentence, pretty sure the major focus of accusations is against the US.

Yeah I'm gonna doubt the Ukranian military had the specialist divers required to plant the bombs. Or the naval ability to sneak past the Russian blockade in the black sea, go through the Mediterranean and the North sea, then into the Baltic sea, sneaking past Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish navy. If Ukranians were involved, they had so much help that it can't be considered a Ukranian operation.

How does it take five people to write "US officials say" two-dozen times and reformat what's essentially a press release.
