Pink Floyd’s heyday roughly corresponds to the arc of growing up, from childlike wonder (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn) to adolescence (Dark Side) to college (Wish You Were Here) to a reactionary political awakening (Animals) to narcissistic adulthood (The Wall).

I'm not sure which characterization is my favorite, thinking:
- reactionary political awakening (Animals)
- narcissistic adulthood (The Wall)
- adolescence (Dark Side)
- college (Wish You Were Here)
I kind of agree with the childlike wonder phase for Piper though.
reactionary just means "i don't like it" now in left-adjacent spaces
It and 'revisionist history' have become ubiquitous in sports discourse, and the ringer is sports-first entertainment journalism so idk that they even know what it really means.
But yeah "i don't like it" sums up how they understand it
Calling Animals reactionary is a great example of people choosing words not because they know what they mean but because they sound *powerful*
I dunno, I think it encapsulates the general mindset of Thatcherism. It doesn't endorse it, but it's definitely about a reactionary political awakening in the UK. (And the overthrow that never happened...)
This author may well be high on their own flatulence, though.
You know, I usually read at least part of the article before commenting, but this time the op included such an ass quotation that I didn't even bother. Maybe you're right :shrug-outta-hecks:
Yeah, I commented before reading it, and then looked at it in context and realized I was being way too charitable.
Wish You Were Here is such a good album. Love both Shine Ons
I'm either "Interstellar Overdrive" or "One of These Days."
are the sax passages on Us and Them the "Havelick Stole the Ball!" of floyd's discography? but first, pearl jam.
Certainly a bit of projection, in the assertion that all growing up goes from child to college to reactionary awakening to narcissism.
Like, maybe you can't see through your own shitty narcissism buddy
Division Bell is Pink Floyd's best album and I will die on that hill.
But what is atom heart mother? This political compass is messy!
