Redditors will scream and piss themselves if you show them what Flint or Gary, Indiana looks like like. The gall they have to call Russia a shithole when millions of westerners live in similar or even worse conditions.

I'd take these people over some skinny stepford smiling housewife who reports you on NextDoor for having the gall to place your lawn gnome at a 45° deflection.

reddit is just a fucking shithole from top to bottom.

As an antidote to their cancer check out the russiawave tumblr for super-comfy and genuinely endearing photos of Russia. One of the very few corners of the internet that isn't polluted.

Living standards by any measure have never gotten back to 1990-91 levels in Ukraine.

In a world where everyone has a camera in their pocket, we really are losing the art of photography - which is every bit an art like painting or sculpting. And like painting or sculpting, yeah everyone can do it but very few people can do it well.

To me, the gold standard (at least in terms of art for everyone) is National Geographic. You can see their stuff on their website but if you can find old magazines that's even better. They are real experts at capturing a mood, a scene, a vibe in a way that communicates so much through one image.

This picture was taken by someone who wanted to just snap a pic and didn't care if it was exploitative. A good photographer would have taken time to talk with these women and get to know them a bit. Or at least, spent time observing them. Maybe they're just vibing and having a blast. A good photographer would capture those feelings and vibes (and be able to show the contrast between the human emotions and the physical environment in a way that is real and tells a story).

There's a blurry happy kid in the foreground and they all have beers in glass pints. There's probably a park right behind the photographer and these women are all just taking a smoke break away from the kids.

It seems like photos of people hanging out from a Russian photographer 10 years ago. The last one with the sunset is very nice. I don't think it was taken with a negative intent

ladies chilling together in the evening while looking over an industrial area with a some greenery bathed in the setting sun

    kvass(?) poured

    kids playing in the foreground

Normal scene in any industrialized nation.

:so-true: "bro this is so fucking depressing lmao much dystopia"

Pollution is bad as a principle sure but aesthetically in this case the visible pollution is no worse than any big city or industrial zone in a western country.
