no, i don't really have a conception of the self like that. i dress the minimum for the weather and enough to avoid being accosted.
we don't look at ourselves constantly when we dress high-effort so it's hard to get my head around the notion that the external signs and presentation aren't for others. I know some people wear makeup when they're home alone and not appearing on camera, so it's literally not for anyone else, but that just makes me wonder what society did to them that they feel the need.
i don't really understand what that means or how it's separable from incorporating how we think a social group would react
