You're seriously overrating the revolutionary potential of the old sub. It was never not like this.
That’s frankly jaded talk. There was a sizable amount of people who got into organizing from the old sub. People last i checked who are still doing that long past having abandoned posting here. Be it as simple as canvassing for Bernie leading to other activist stuff to the fact that every leftist org IRL I’ve gone to has had at least 2 people who got active in leftism via the sub. It def had some sort of impact and there was a sense it genuinely could be used to organize for specific causes.
Was it ever gonna be a vanguard? Fuck no the people who thought that were foolish. But it DEF created a level of active real world good this site has not and frankly will not have the same ability to do.
The sub had 200k members, we have 15k - mostly re-regs. It's not some cultural degradation, it's just numbers.

I remember them actually coming back to the sub after and making a post about how they'd learned about police brutality or something and also calling out people for being unnecessarily mean.
I don't think he was dragged as much the second time and the general consensus was to chill and be nice to them.

That was somewhat intentional people started downplaying where it came from/ pivoted to saying it was from the “I didn’t stick my duck in the bunny cop” copypasta. But that was around way before the sub started memeing it to death and said memes only began AFTER the guys post.
That really sucks.

It's a bit more complex than that, but the description is accurate. The person posted a thread asking if it was ok to like Zootopia (and in particular the bunny cop) even though cops are, you know, bad. Responses ranged from the beginnings of the now-popular meme, to people saying that this was way overthinking the whole thing and that OP should just enjoy Zootopia if they like it (typically with some aside about how it is copaganda), to people desperately trying to convince OP to stop participating in the discussion because they were clearly becoming increasingly distressed by the whole thing. I think it spilled into multiple posts by OP, and by the end most people were just trying to get OP to log off because the sub was not a good place for them to be spending time right then (the meme posts about "fucking the bunny cop" started almost immediately).
People on here really gotta understand that sex negativity doesn't make you not weird about sex.
