Meanwhile, a crowdfunding campaign set up to support Neely’s family has raised just $123,000.

What's so maddening about today's neo-fascism is that it's all dog whistles and nods and winks to the audience. To come right out and say "hitler was right and good" is political and career suicide so the right traffics in cases that are muddy to the general public. To the left the ex-marine is a racist goon killer but the right can champion him as a hero of working people sticking up for defenseless subway riders who got assaulted. They make it so that you're the crazy person for pointing out the racism, you're "woke", while they wink to the audience that white makes right and we're securing a future for white babies :stalin-stressed:

The Neoliberalism of the Far-Right: Like all institutions, it can no longer directly run anything, it can only incentivize sporadic far-right terrorism.

Nobody is saying out loud: "We'll pay you to kill homeless people," but they are making sure everybody who goes viral for doing so will imagine themselves a celebrity instead of a criminal.

It’s not full career suicide. They keep edging closer to what they mean and want.

Every time a right wing grifter does well, it gives clearance for others to do the same.

I don't think racism is the correct tack to take here honestly. He may or may not be racist I have no idea, but liberals and CHUDs aren't united in hatred of black people, they're united in their hatred of poor people. This is a war being fought in cities with little to no race difference between the rich and the homeless, they're homicidal all the same.

IDK believe what you want honestly, but I think if you're in discussion with people and chalk it up to race you might be dismissed as not being "serious" - it's harder to argue that liberals and CHUDs aren't constitutionally opposed to giving poor and homeless populations opportunity to live a dignified life.

I think racial undertones are always a factor. And I have no doubt this story would be playing different with a white victim instead.

However you've hit the issue squarely. This isn't a (public) case of a black person being murdered. It's the case of an untouchable being removed. Liberals are fine with it.

Just like they're fine with the zone being removed in Phoenix. And they're fine with making homelessness a crime. All the while being a couple paychecks away. I speak for myself here. I make more money than my parents ever have. And in this moment now I'm the closest I've ever been to homelessness.

It's still very racialized for the time being. Had Neely been white, I'm assuming a very similar reaction would be witnessed but there would not be so many publicly defending the killer.

This shit would absolutely not happen if their race were reversed. The NYPD would've 100% hunt down the murderer for sport and blew his brains out. I would even bet the passengers wouldn't have passively stood by but instead prevent the murder from taking place. I've seen enough videos and Tiktoks where some white dipshit is verbally and physically harassing some POC while everyone else around them don't do shit, but as soon as the POC starts standing up for themselves and throwing hands, suddenly, everyone wants to larp as a boxing referee. It's not just people hating the poor and homeless but people hating Black people as well, and if you're homeless and Black, well, some mayo can look forward to $2M for killing you.

The issue plainly is not just the city itself and the views of the people there, but how the media outside the city is reporting on it and how people outside the city are reacting to it.

To come right out and say “hitler was right and good”

The Magic of Hitler is that you can just slap his face on anyone's shoulders and make them the villains. Conservatives don't need to say "Hitler was Good". They just say "Malcolm X was Hitler" and "Fred Thompson was Hitler" and "Nicholas Maduro is Hitler" and "Jeremy Corbyn is Hitler".

I'm sure there are pictures of Neely, getting strangled on the subway in front of a crowd of gawkers, with Hitler's face plastered over the top.

They make it so that you’re the crazy person for pointing out the racism, you’re “woke”, while they wink to the audience that white makes right and we’re securing a future for white babies

Its smug winks and wry nods, until Daniel Penny gets arreigned. Then you get dudes in white robes throwing rocks through court house windows.

Like, say what you will about Jan 6th, but it wasn't a subtle display of white nationalism. And that shit's going to keep happening, every time enough conservative media heads decide to prod their audience all at once.
