So glad I never spent money on this past buying the first game—not only do they treat their employees like dogwater, they can't even squeeze out the big thing that justified Overwatch 2*
That was the whole justification for creating overwatch 2 lmao. They lied as an excuse to make the monetization more predatory. :capitalist-laugh:
I thought people were assuming they changed after whatever corporate profit-maximizing they decided to do within the last few years. The fact that Overwatch 2 just became the re-monetization of Overwatch with locked characters and battle passes and other crap seems like it wasn't the original intent. The previous monetization model wasn't predatory enough.
I don't understand this comment, I thought Overwatch was a porn genre
Unironically though Blizzard cinematics are incredibly formulaic, but they still work at making me go :soypoint-1: :soypoint-2: every time.
Replaying StarCraft 2 campaigns rn and yeah the cinematics are all pretty cool to look at but good god the writing is dogshit.
This is one of the most UlyssesT stories I've ever seen and he didn't even post it. Hilarious shamelessness from Activision Blizzard.
"Capital-R Rationalists go crazy over ELO~N buying Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games"
Noooo don't take away my UlyssesT fanclub membership card :angry-hex:
Holy shit what are they doing? I actually would have given OW2 PvE a try since I think that game has a lot of potential that's held back by the fact that it's competitive multiplayer only - a good campaign with wacky characters using their abilities to defeat waves of enemies on a bunch of interesting levels should be a slam dunk.
Likewise.
I'm playing Redfall at the moment, Redfall, because it's spoopy like-it-better-than-farcry mindless PvE schlock I zone out to with an audiobook.

i don't want to bring up the most :reddit-logo: tier comment possible but literally Mann vs. Machine in TF2
One day when I've got my life together I'm gonna go back and start a fresh Warframe account
Wait I don’t have to be a
spoiler
child soldier
Anymore??
Added a spoiler in case anyone cares who’s in the suits
I assume the reason it was scrapped was because it would be more difficult to shove transactions into it. They'd probably have to just give people skins for completing storylines.
The Blizzard way was to keep games out of public view until they were ready to be seen and to release them only when they were as close to the ideal vision as they could possibly be. That isn't the way anymore--not for Overwatch 2 anyway.
When was the last time they didn't shit the bed with a release?
Diablo 4 was pretty well-received, as far as I know, though obviously Diablo Immortal was a catastrophe.
I mean, I'd hope that the first act of the game looks good. Usually things don't start looking threadbare until the latter half. Overwatch was the first release in years that wasn't plagued with issues. SC2 was fine I think?
SC2 was good when it came out and STILL has a big active playerbase thanks to the PvE "Allied Commander" mode (people also play the PvP ladder but its fallen off a lot harder). Blizzard should have learned from that game that there's a huge market for people who want to play these kinds of games but who don't want to constantly do stressful ass PvP, but I guess they didn't learn that.
Starcraft: Remastered was really well received too, but WoW 3 Remastered was a dumpster fire on release IIRC.
WC3 Remastered was outsourced to a mobile game dev if I remember correctly.
I know WoW's story telling went off a cliff, I think they've used elder gods like 3 or 4 times now.
They did a good corruption plot in SC1 and then a serviceable bog standard fantasy version with WC3 and then forgot how to tell any other plot and just had repeated corruption/redemption arcs to fill in SC2
diablo 4 isnt out for another 2+ weeks though, besides these open betas theyve had, so they could easily fuck it up
":The interesting thing about it is, it's such a difference releasing content for players that are playing your game instead of saving up all of that content for one big release that you're going to do later. So we came to the realization that this wasn't the right way to be developing for all of Overwatch. It was about a year and a half ago that we made the decision to really shift strategy. That's when we rapidly shifted the resources on our team to work on launching Overwatch 2, and that's what came out last October."
We realized the content treadmill model is the best way to make money so we're throwing two and a half years of work in the garbage in order to get more money from the Live Service model.
whats crazy to me is that it took them that long to realize it.
They're scrapping the progression system in favour of just straight story missions. Which means they're only worth playing once.
The progression system was the entire thing that would add value.
Guess what, Bungie already tried an episodic model for story-mission content in Halo. It didn't work, it didn't keep players coming back for the next episode. And their PVE gameplay fucking rocked too.
This shit is not going to work. They've completely borked everything. Overwatch 1 made 300million in launch week. It took 3 months for Overwatch 2 to make 100million. It has been a catastrophic failure and I am 100% certain they are not retaining players. The subreddit gets 2000 comments per day, which is only slightly higher than the 1500 comments per day they would get when Overwatch 1's population was at its worst.
Oh and they lost China. And esports has basically collapsed with investors being totally uninterested in it anymore.
I am confident that Blizzard have been burned by this.
one of the biggest bag fumbles + L + own goal that I've ever seen
I don't think the really talented animators are around anymore. I haven't seen the squash and stretch stuff that was in their earlier animation in years. The people working on it now are definitely not the people that pioneered it all.
literal LMAO holy shit Blizzard
So what are your predictions on how they're gonna fuck up Diablo IV? How fast is that game gonna go downhill? i'm guessing a battlepass to get a best in slot legendary that you have to grind 100+ hours for.
Diablo 4 aesthetically looks like it shifted back toward 2 after what happened with 3, so it's automatically hype and unwoke and pog actually regardless of how they fleece me
it's actually woke until they add the based deus vult paladin again
the second a decent and even slightly less greedy alternative comes out i think (hope) these games will find themselves in real trouble. hyenas and the finals are somewhat promising, they're straight up the only two on-the-horizon team comp shooters i know of though and the hyenas beta was definitely mid as of last march.
