They scared my dog for years and made me terrified of fires breaking out. Also hated the weird jackasses that went around neighborhoods and setting them off. Tip they went away when we kept the lights on and got some of our neighbors to do the same.
I went to an outdoor birthday party on the 4th of July this year and somebody decided to set off fireworks right next to us without telling anyone during the middle of the day. Legit thought a shooting was happening!
Fun game to play firework vs gun shots. Admittedly I never went to a gun range, more because of money than dislike of guns, maybe someone more experienced could tell me the difference of the sounds and how worried I should be.
Gunshots have a higher pitched component to them on top of the bang. Blanks fired out of a gun lack a lot of this component, but actual rounds have it. If you hear a crack, it's definitely a gunshot, but if you don't it doesn't mean it's not a gun.

Also handguns and rifles sound very different.
That being said, if we outlaw fireworks, how are we supposed to put a string of Black Cats in a coffee can and set it off outside a police station?
I'll listen for a crack next time. Thanks for the clarification.
