We need to promote a lot of people to site mods before the upgrade. Just allow trusted users to take matters into their own hands while mods are sleeping.

Yes, this. When they realize that factual, opposing takes will not be censored and in fact get upvoted, they'll leave in disgust. It's not about having discussions, it's about everything you read proving that you're right and those other people are not just wrong, but so wrong that they have to be deleted to avoid the wrongness spreading to others of lesser intellect who might be fooled. It's all about emotions for them.

If it’s any reconciliation, Hexbear may be federating with Lemmygrad soon.

Honestly kinda nice to see all the activity over there.

Hopefully we'll be able to jump in within a couple weeks with the site upgrade just around the corner

Be aware that comrade Dessalines has pointed out that lemmy.ml currently is overloaded, so it's best to hop in from another instance if you don't have an account already

there's something really funny about Lemmy, this website's more ideologically stringent sibling, being put out there as a default reddit alternative. would be funny if they end up with a bunch of grillpilled audiophile/woodworking/etc subs with a Stalinist aesthetic

Lemmy is a collection of websites. I'd describe lemmygrad.ml as more ideologically stringent, but lemmy.ml has been intended to be a general interest instance since inception (though it is still administrated by Communists and they do remove outright reactionary shit). Very early in the project, before Lemmygrad, these were already split into lemmy.ml and communism.lemmy.ml.

It seems like lemmy.ml is running up against the limits of what its VPS can handle though, and the admins are recommending for people to start / join other instances. There is an opportunity for some shitlib instance to seize the mantle (though they will be far behind Dessalines and Nutomic on the technical know-how).

If Lemmy takes off, it will probably end up like Mastodon. Gigantic instances run by shitlibs and inhabited by hordes of annoying nerds, but with many pockets of cool shitposters to keep the libs up at night. The shitlib admins will only be able to hide them from their users, but they won't have the power to destroy them.

That whole Mastodon thing just disappeared after the brief window after Musk bought Twitter. People said they were leaving and disappeared without a trace. I figured I'd start seeing links to Mastodon on various social media sites, and it just hasn't happened. As far as I know, they're still there, happy to talk to each other without being bothered by chuds.

I explicitly said those acts aren’t excusable.

yet you used them as an excuse

Legality is a nonsense concept in this context.

only if you’re a criminal seeking legitimacy for your crimes.

Every single paragraph you just wrote is projecting a view I don’t hold onto me then crying about how you disagree with it.

“Blah blah blah, I can’t hear you! blah blah blah!”

My audience has demonstrated that it is very stupid.

My gang of nazis thinks my Naziism is awesome

well done. all that you did is prove I’m right, and that you’re terrible. I’m sure you’ll re-imagine that as a win, for the sake of your ego… because you’re too weak to admit when you’re wrong. like a strong man would.

edit: strong people do not fear defeat, for it provides them an opportunity to overcome their own weaknesses. weak people, like you, fear the inevitability of simply admitting that they were wrong, for they know they have no future.

Another point: we 100% need to bring back downvotes if hexbear dot net is going to get people from outside shitting all over themselves. I understand taking out downvotes because it unnecessarily antagonizes people, but outsiders are fair game lmao

I disagree. Liberals and fash are cowardly little shits that prefer to downvote instead of articulating what they believe in. Forcing them to show their entire ass and get banned is better.

I think the issue is that downvotes are enabled and disabled at the instance level, not the community level. If they are disabled on our instance, we can't downvote them, but they can downvote us. I might be completely wrong though. A lot has changed over the years. I agree though. I much prefer they be forced to show their ass instead of smugly pulling the "silent majority" thing.

You mean you haven't created a downvote bot and five accounts?

          spoiler

I actually do, but it was for downvote-bombing an edgy neo-nazi scat porn spammer who was strangly obsessed with Lemmy, so that their posts weren't highly visible. No idea if it needs an update.

I would have to think the devs have it covered. I think they can patch our instance to "do nothing" when a downvote comes in. They may have merged that into mainstream Lemmy as an option too idk.

Lib or not I would not condone anything based on compass. Also State Capitalism is bad even if it calls itself Communism and Russia is everything but Marxist. However I am willing to debate any neo-liberalist, centrist and right wing viewpoint.

PRC and other oppressive states that say they're ruled by a communist party but have a classist system where most of the benefits go to a political and/or financial elite, just like in any neoliberal state just with all the hints to any imahinary or real pluralism removed. In real communism there's no coersion. Debate.

What's a non-oppressive state? One that currently exists, preferably.

It's nauseating hearing people talk about the nature of "real communism", like undergrads in Guevara t-shirts who have nothing but religious language to describe it because they have never studied the subject beyond cultural osmosis. Quoting Engels:

The 'people's state' has been thrown in our faces by the anarchists to the point of disgust, although already Marx's book against Proudhon and later the Communist Manifesto say plainly that with the introduction of the socialist order of society the state dissolves of itself [sich auflost] and disappears. As the state is only a transitional institution which is used in the struggle, in the revolution, to hold down one's adversaries by force, it is sheer nonsense to talk of a 'free people's state'; so long as the proletariat still needs the state, it does not need it in the interests of freedom but in order to hold down its adversaries, and as soon as it becomes possible to speak of freedom the state as such ceases to exist. We would therefore propose replacing the state everywhere by Gemeinwesen, a good old German word which can very well take the place of the French word commune.

There is no pretense by the PRC that they have reached the final stage of socialism, referred to there by Engels as Gemeinwesen and usually called today simply "communism". They have never held except that they are in a transitional state, as all socialist states are and must be so long as [neo]liberal capitalism is part of the world order. A little isolated commune can do little else but stay afloat itself. A massive commune can do little else but be steamrolled by its capitalist encirclers.

I fail to see China going towards this state of no state. Maybe it's just me. All I want is a revolution all over Europe and especially in Russia.

The development of the means of production to a sufficiently advanced state is one of the preconditions to communism, along with the destruction of the imperialist world order.

If you think revolution in Russia is more immediately desirable than revolution in, say, France or Britain or Germany on any basis other than being somewhat less likely to be a fascist revolution, you're probably spending too much time on Reddit because those other countries are a much greater blight to the world. Do you think France controls all those African currencies and banks to just help the poor Africans with their fiscal management? Or that 150,000 German troops were sent to Afghanistan to build hospitals? Or that Britain is anything short of America's dog?

Now, you are moving the goal posts and making assumptions without knowledge. I'll agree to disagree, especially on imperialism, but probably not in a way you'd think. You are also bringing up stuff I did not say nor imply. Thanks for making this a nice place to have a discussion.

I just realized you think "lib" here referred to "libertarian" as in polcomp. No, here it means "liberal" as in "neoliberal" (or sometimes specifically Dem-aligned neoliberal).

Nope, i definitely understood that lib refers to liberal (US meaning, not what it means on the other side of the Atlantic ocean) or neoliberal (or neoliberalist). I may have been too vague or bad at expressing myself in a language that i am not a native speaker of.
