Lol, good thing she decided not to retire when Obama was Pres. Just look at all she's accomplished since then!
Holy shit she's actually dead. https://www.npr.org/2020/09/18/100306972/justice-ruth-bader-ginsburg-champion-of-gender-equality-dies-at-87 Pulling probabilities out of my ass, GOP forces through another justice before late January with at least 90% probability, and before November with at least 40% probability. Dems will watch helplessly and throw another impotent fit as usual.
yo they already got the next justice picked more or less its just a matter of time

This is genuinely horrible, not just for libs. Even if they don't have the guts or discipline to repeal Roe v. Wade, there is a very strong possibility (like >50%) that they will essentially kill the labor movement. I think they will most likely declare nationwide right-to-work, and maybe go even further like banning public-sector unions or outright moving back toward the Lochner era of striking down any and all labor regulations. It is hard to understate how bad this would be.
i agree that it sucks.
my take on it is probably in line with a lot of the community, we're already on the road of capitalist acceleration so this is nearly just another speedup. it sucks but it doesn't change the trajectory of history.
maybe its cope idk
There's no accelerationist benefit to dismantling labor unions, at least not any that could be foreseen. Unions are exactly the infrastructure needed to respond to the opportunities created by "acceleration."
i don't think anybody is saying there's a benefit. i think the point is is this is/was inevitable and unpreventable, and we've just accelerated towards it now.
im not saying its a benefit, im saying thats the direction usa is headed to: instability, fascism, late-stage capitalism.
But I was told I had to vote Biden to protect Roe v Wade :matt:
Also why is there no Joker emoji?
no restriction as they have a senate majority. roe v. wade is fucked.
I don't think they will ever overturn Roe v. Wade. It is too good of a scaremongering fundraiser bogeyman for them. They want it around so they can run against it.
Overturning it would be even better for their elections. It would mean that abortion would now be on a state-by-state basis, giving them a clear thing to run on in every state election. It would be useful federally too, since it opens the hypothetical (if unlikely) possibility of a nationwide ban.
Maybe I'm misinformed but it seems like the republicans have been taking serious steps the past year or so to force another supreme court case that could allow for an overturning. If they weren't serious about overturning it why would they be actively working towards a situation where the court has to either uphold or overturn it? Like having it around could be politically valuable but if it comes up to the supreme court and they uphold it it would be extremely bad PR
Biden in the past has said he isn't interested in packing the court...He's probably gonna pull an Obama and uphold ""the system"" above all else.
This was my first thought and then I realized what party we’re talking about. Democrats won’t do a fucking thing.
What the fuck is wrong with you? You're smarter than that dumb shit take
Republicans hold a 5-4 majority currently. This means they will cement their majority for another decade or two.
Quick, Call up Kim Jong-un. We'll use Juche Necromancy.
Who said we have to resurrect her?
