Can you name any case ever heard by the U.S. Supreme Court?
    Yes 54%
    No 46%

I just took a brief survey of the four adults currently in this room and all of us could name a supreme court case. None of us are American and only one of us has a college degree.

Because online dating culture is incredibly toxic. Take boomer dating culture, mix it with even more incredibly crass racial stereotypes boosted by the algorithm, social paranoia, and just generalized anti-social behavior, and you get a large isolated groups of people of all races and genders that do not believe it is possible to inter-culturally/inter-racially date or marry.

I have met multiple black women who think black men who date outside of their race are race-traitors. I've met white men who refuse to date anyone who isn't also white. I've met several young Indian men who will never marry outside their caste, let alone race.

Most of these opinions are, at first, ironic presentations online, but just like with ironic Nazis, eventually it is not irony anymore.

Shits wack af up here people, send help.

Do you think it's just because of online dating culture?

I think it is one of the major driving factors of anti-social behavior. The complete and totalizing market affect on relationships is incredibly pronounced in a way that noticably affects everyone. America already has a puritanical attitude around sex and relationships, and slapping a gamification element has only served to complete the alienated aspect of dating. It's probably not the only one though.

I'm not sure moving to even more isolated white nations would help, but maybe.

The poll is bad. There is no way on god’s green earth that the older you are, the more accepting you are of interracial couples (at least in the US). It’s inconsistent with similar polls as as well just obvious common knowledge. It would be like seeing a poll among Americans that showed the older you were, the more likely it is you are cool with socialism.

Now what would be an interesting study would be to see the gap between what people say about their feelings on interracial couples, and what they actually think. I suspect there’s a significant gap but idk.

I wonder if some people were confused by the wording of the poll. I mean this makes no sense. 31% of black people answered Yes? 22% of liberals vs 18% of conservatives?

    Otherwise: :joker-amerikkklap: :brainworms:

Has anyone ever concidered that the kind of people that would actually do a yougov poll would be political cranks and wonks and may not entirely reflect reality?

Everyone's in here talking about the sample size being too small or the questions being confusing. I don't give them that much credit. I legitimately think some researcher just accidentally flipped the age range somewhere between raw poll outputs and aggregated data. Maybe they accidentally transcribed some numbers into an Excel sheet backwards.

The whole data's fucked up actually. White people are the most progressive about interracial marriage of all races? 65+ is the most progressive age bracket? Conservatives are the most progressive political affiliation? Simply zero shot. They accidentally read it off backwards.

If you look at the other data in the PDF OP linked this seems more likely. Every question is like this, from gay marriage to contraceptives. Either a total data fuckup or they somehow found the most non-representative sample ever.

Okay, but it's increasing among youth. This is contradictory to everything I thought about cultural and political trends among younger generations, both in the US and elsewhere.

The sample was barely over 2k people. The survey was only conducted once.

So maybe, just maybe, having a larger sample size per survey coupled with multiple surveys throughout a time period would give drastically different results.

Also, the survey was done online. I've been down on much luck financially enough to go find a "do surveys for pennies" website before and I've taken YouGov surveys that way. I didn't take them all that seriously as I was needing to crank out surveys as fast as I could to get gas money.

As another commenter said, "take this survey with a grain of salt".

what you really want is having a representative sample e.g. making sure that out of those 2000 people, they are, roughly, a good reflection across ethnicity, gender, religion, occupation, state, so on, so forth; if that were the case, (which I doubt) then 2000 would not be out of question as being a decent survey

a lot of pretty important psych papers have sample sizes way below 2000, for example, in fact, the bigger the sample size, for some statistical tests (not pertinent for the current subject of discussion) the more likely that you'll get false positive results (type II errors)

that's just how psychometrics is sometimes

more to the point, a poll that someone else points out disagrees with this poll (https://hexbear.net/post/271974/comment/3521696) was done on 1000 respondents; technically, as long as a sample is representative, its number would not matter unless it was under, let's say, 100 respondents

I didn't say it was completely unusable, just leaning towards "grain of salt" more than "evidence of future trend".

Or at least that was my intent.

It’s a weird sample. Also 31% of black respondents opposed? Over sampling of young “Hotep” types?

I'm surprised it's that high. My brown mestizo ass has never had a problem with getting dates outside of my race in that age group.
