Reddit was founded on free speech and open discourse, especially when it was really uncomfortable

Early Reddit was just a bunch of nerds circlejerking over shitty memes. The biggest discourse was when a woman dared to criticize a vibeo game, and there was no discourse considering everyone agreed women = bad. There was no “uncomfortable” or “open discourse” on Reddit in the first couple years, and the free speech was the freedom to post cp. Only pedos want to bring back early Reddit.

When I discovered reddit, I thought it was great. That's because I have only ever used it as a link aggregator, no comments for me please thank you.

The best part about reddit was never The Community, it was the fact that you could find a ton of niche communities in one place that would answer questions you had.

This is why you add shit like mandatory pronouns tags to all accounts. You have to make deliberate ideologic decisions that piss off reactionaries. It’s boring that vanilla Lemmy has refused to add pronoun tags. Best hexbear feature hands down.

It's why I like the content warnings for meat. Something about that enrages the rightists on reddit whenever I mention Hexbear. They :kitty-cri-screm: over something that doesn't inconvenience me at all and doesn't stop me from posting that content. It keeps away the insufferable whiny babies and makes them out themselves if they do post here.

Assuming it's the same user, which I think it probably is given that they had the same exact hangup about jokes ten years ago, here's one of their last comments:

I'm just writing to tell you I don't think there was anything wrong with what you did. Telling teenagers they can't have sex is one of the more absurd things about modern society. Many 15 and 16 is legal in many countries, for good reason: because most 15 and 16 year olds are mature enough to be able to decide what to do with their own bodies. 100 years ago people had families by the time they were 14. The idiots downvoting you live in a magical world where people are suddenly mature only when the law tells them they are.

      Also a mEn'S rIgHtS aCtIvIsT

      edit: from another comment-

Furthermore, the way men are treated if they so much as dare look at a child, let alone take pictures of them, talk to them, or decide to become school teachers [heaven help them] is quite frankly offensive.

Some people want to go back in time and kill Baby Hitler. I want to go back in time and ask this goober why he's taking photos of children that presumably aren't his.

Furthermore, the way men are treated if they so much as dare look at a child, let alone take pictures of them, talk to them

There's a book called "The Gift of Fear" that likely explains in detail why he in particular gets suspicious looks from parents while being around children.

I work with kids all the time and I've never had that problem. I've dealt with parents pissed at me for a number of reasons, but chances are if a parent thinks a person is creepy, it's because of subtle but often quite accurate red flags that their intuition picks up.

Before talking to them. I think that implies he's taking photos of other people's kids from a distance.

Look, free speech-wise, all I'm saying is that liberals should be put into labor camps.
