Reddit is scroll locking posts, and account gating even sorting.
This isn't the case on old.reddit.com while it lasts.
the most fucked up part about any of this is how hard it makes it to get actually helpful information using google
We need a human-written index of useful and informative websites like we did back in 1994. No more algorithms. There's no point in searching everything if 99% of everything is AI-written garbage.
Not that it’s perfect, but I think that’s part of the reason Wikipedia has been relatively unaffected by enshittification. Non-profit structure, articles written by human beings to be informative instead of satisfying SEO, subject to community review. It’s not that search engines in and of themselves are bad, it’s the profit-driven structure that ruins it.
I literally won't use reddit ever again if they get rid of old.reddit.com the fucking mobile site and app load so fucking slow
I agree. I tried using the official Reddit app, it was shit. I now use my mobile browser with the "show desktop site" option clicked, and the zoom turned up, so I can see formula one news.
it's honestly shocking that they looked at twitter and said "yea, these are good ideas"
tho ig redd*t always has been the elon worship site so maybe it makes sense i dunno
this means we're losing a ton of useful information :)
He is, he went on record saying that musk was doing a terrific job at twitter, this is not a joke, you can google this if you want.
I still use the mobile app and it's slow af. Good riddance, it seems like the most active socialist subreddit now is r/stupidpol.
dunno how it compares in size but the deprogram sub is good and has a vibe similar to this place
I agree, but it'll get banned sooner or later. No large and successful leftist spaces will be allowed to exist.
Subs tend to get quarantined before they're banned. Maybe when that happens, we can funnel some of the userbase here.
Absolutely no subreddit has "the same vibes as this place". Just putting that out there.
idk if it's still around but I used to be active on AcidMarxism and they had an adjacent vibe to this place if not the same one. I stopped posting there because they went private and I had deleted my account.
"Mom, can I have a social media platform for free speech?"
"For free speech?
"Yeeeess."
Actually ruins 90% of public discussion space by opening the door to access restrictions and paid accounts etc., like a boss
Cascading enshitification time
Old reddit will almost certainly be gone within 2 years, could even be within the year
I will actually quit reddit the day old reddit is gone -- unlike all my previous claims and attempts to quit using it. There is no fucking way I will read that shit in the "new UI".
I'm surprised old.reddit has lasted this long. Really shows you how they know the current site design is absolutely shitty.
Funny as fuck because Twitter's ad revenue is down 50% so far since he took over. It's a disaster. I don't know why they would want to emulate that disaster.
No. Ad revs are down much further than that. All the big advertisers have left (pepsi, maccyDs) and been left with smaller ones with very limited budgets. Myself and many others now see fake ads and ads from what look like scams on there. Twitter wont last much longer. In fact its down this morning.
Master businessman lol evaporated tens of billions of dollars. Truly a testament to the workers of Tesla who managed to build a successful enterprise in spite of having this dumbass at the helm.
He owes $bns to the Saudis now too. And lets not forget the $480m the US Government had to bail Tesla out with in the early 2000s.
Did not know about the bailout. Government stop giving money to companies without taking equity challenge
Somebody needs to make an app that just pretends to be their app or their webapp but with all this shit removed. I'm not sure it's possible for a browser extension to do everything that's necessary efficiently because I imagine it would be a lot of removing things right after adding them rather than not doing bs in the first place.
If you wanna keep using the app and have Android (or maybe Apple if it's jail broken?) Here's a guide to install a few different apps using reVanced:
https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/mobilebasic
That worked for a while, now I get "error 429: too many requests "
So it looks like Reddit shut that down too
