how many of the people who yell "ORGANIZE" at every other leftist have ever organized anything more complex than their Diablo inventory

"Organize" has always been the "vote" of the left.

    Organize how? With whom?

People avoid these questions because they can be divisive.

One thing people should consider doing if they have been out of a job is finding somewhere to agitate for forming a union. My local DSA has been working to set up these "roots" or "salts" at a large corporation in the area.

No, it's because organising requires a set of more specific questions that need to be asked if you want meaningful answers, and contexts in which someone might encourage you to "organise" in general are not the same as specific questions about what to do in a specific area or at a specific time.

What's actually happening is people are incapable of understanding the difference between general encouragement and specific conversations and debates. Now it looks like people want to have the same insufferable pushback against "read theory" but against encouragement to organise, which will be weeks of unbearable discussions and bad faith arguments built around strawmen so people can dismiss those who generally encourage learning and action.

I mean, it's a bit of both, I think. There are plenty of people who will say "you gotta organize" and are unable or unwilling to follow up with specific examples of what they mean by that.

But you're also right, in the way that a lot of the time people are saying a general "voting isn't enough, you also have to organize in your community" as a general catch-all that includes a wide range of activities from mutual aid to education to direct action.

And we come online to make shitposts and jokes about it. Online, where these types of discussions can be pretty tough to get into detail about, like you mentioned.

I'm just gonna start linking people reading groups for Jane Macleavey's No Shortcuts organizing book. People gotta know the difference between organizing and mobilizing.

They are useless exhortations. Most people are online due to lack of local orgs to join. If they believe in it then they should organize a list of orgs to join based on geography to give the unorganized left a jumping off point.

For those of you who don't feel comfortable owning guns, for whatever reasons, there's a couple standard suggestions (please note, these are all in addition to organize, which honestly can be as simple as talking to your neighbors, making sure you've got strong bonds in your immediate vicinity):

      1. buy an upper and lower receiver, and then have a friend hold half of it. That way it's available with some assembly if SHTF.

      2. buy body armor. I just recently bought some, and c/guns has a thread I started on what I'm learning with it. It's cheaper to get than most guns & ammo (although buy American made ceramics! Don't buy Chinese steel plates), and since this is America, you're a lot more likely to know someone with guns to spare to buddy up with if SHTF.

      3. get actively involved in stockpiling goods for you, your neighbors, and your org. Food & clean water will be far more useful than a gun in most situations we're likely to face.

      4. buy and study various prepping books. I like "the encyclopedia of country living", but I (obviously) live in the country. R/preppers has various threads with lots of resources.

I think a climate/prepping community would def be useful here for sure.

I have a limited amount of resources I've collected from r/preppers, but if we get a community we can compile resources into a few torrents and then just seed them constantly.

Organizing on the internet is basically asking to join up with some Feds and spend 20 years in federal prison on trumped up terrorism charges is why.

Are you telling me there isn't an SRA branch in Portland of all places? Because it sounds like that's what you're looking for.

Yes I really would love to see a community devoted to organizing/praxis on here. I don't live in the US and I essentially live in the chudville of my country so I'm not really sure how to go about meeting other leftists in my area. Got any tips?

Yeah but yelling at liberals for being useless is cool and good. What else should I be yelling at them?

I'm not even sure that's a negative. If you are a lib then, yeah, everything about your ideology says you should vote. It's probably the most useful thing they do with any of these platforms.
