this shits wild. these alien brainworms are spreading to normies. one of my friends who is vaguely left (supported bernie and went to BLM protests, but has a three arrows sticker on their car cringe ) has been drawn in.

this person is smart (valedictorian in high school) and they are generally pretty grounded. but their sister is in the military and recently told them to “take this alien stuff seriously” and now they’re convinced. i kinda just joked around about it and they looked at me like i was the crazy one when i said i didnt think aliens have ever been to earth. how?! they mentioned the “non-human remains” found in a craft and when i suggested it could be a dog or bird they gave me a “seriously?” look and acted like i was being overly cynical. i have a record of cynicism for sure, but this shit is so obviously BS. i ended up just killing the convo by giving the ole “ill believe it when i see it”

i honestly dont care if they believe in aliens but its just so weird how common this alien discussion is now. ive had like 5 people bring it up to me unprompted in the past week or two.

well, the writers and actors are on strike. reality TV is a decaying orbit for holding attention, at best. people are desperate for anything to pay attention to, because confronting the current situation (climate change/extreme weather events, perennial wars across the horizon, wage collapse/recession, US partisan landscape) is not something anyone wants to make eye contact with.

contact with an alien civilization is a truly external event where the observer holds no responsibility. we can just witness history and dream of a different future than the one we seem to be locked into. sorta reminds me of the Drew Curtis Hypernormalization doc, where he brings up earlier instances of alien-mania in the US which he implies was a pressure release valve for growing tension over revealed institutional corruption.

Believing in aliens is logical. Believing that they've been to earth, but only in the last hundred years, and only in the US, is literally insane.

I’ve seen people argue this is real because ‘there’s no way we’re the only ones’ as if that somehow means it’s equally likely that they’re here now lol

Like imagine arguing there’s a high chance the aurora borealis I claim is in my kitchen is real just because you find it unlikely that that one aurora you saw one time was the only one

To most people congress/parliament isn't one of the acts of the larger charade of bourgeois democracy, it is a very serious place where serious things are discussed. Even is one's disappointed or disillussioned with their ability to come to real solutions to whatever issue they have close at heart, to them it's not the clowncar we see it for (not that it doesn't hold any real power, but it is fundamentally incapable of making real, systemic change).

So, when congress decides to take what used to be a silly issue seriously, it signals to all the people who pathologically follow "politics", to take it seriously as well, even if they never had considered it before.

I was just thinking about that as I wrote the comment, but then I realized that that's why many lib-brained people are morbidly interested in the antics of the MTGs and other "unserious" congresspeople.

They are the odd ones out, being crazy at the serious place, when to me they're more acutely aware of the rules of the game, and know that showmanship gets more rewarded from the GOP base than any attempts at seriousness.

This is is exactly right. That's why i got sick of AOC et al, saying they had to play ball with Dem leadership to have committee appointments. Whonthe fuck cares? The only thing that matters is if you can raise money or not, and she was 2nd only to Pelosi. Early point in figuring out they were a useless dead end.

Like someone on here said the other day, it's wild seeing the general public go crazy over this shit while niche super left spaces like hexbear are more skeptical and moderate about it.

im kinda used to it considering 99% of amerikans swallow western propaganda hook, line, and sinker. but this is different, more shocking. like, the probability of this being aliens is incredibly thin and there is ZERO proof. its turning everyone into conspiracy theorists

I think it's because the source of the psyop is pretty directly the federal government and the military. We already assume everything they say is exactly false.

The only IRL conversations I've witnessed about the alien junk go like this:

"Hey you hear about the alien crap?"

    "Yep, pretty wild"

End of conversation. I think most people are just treating it as "content".

        Correct barber.

Real talk though, what do you folks say to barbers when they say something you disagree with? I don't really talk at all while getting my hair cut, not because I'm not happy to but because usually barbers don't start the chat and I don't start it either. But I can't imagine myself doing anything more than just nod along because there's no way in hell I'm starting an argument with the guy holding a blade to my head.

Nodding might not be the best thing to do at that moment either.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Like sure, maybe, but if they're real show me the right-handed DNA and left-handed sugars or metal with a totally different ambient radiation content or something.

They are a complete rube who only listens what the government says and does what they're told like a good citizen. Not only are they a fool, but they are dangerous as well. They will 100% snitch on you when socialists are officially designated as enemies of the state. I stay far away from these type of people, people with hall monitor/snitch/"but why would the government lie to us" energy.

That's funny because the woman I was recently seeing literally believes in aliens, doesn't believe in evolution, and is super spiritual doesn't believe the recent news about alien whistleblower

None of my friends have brought it up at all either though it's 100% plausible they might be avoiding it around me because they know I'd call them stupid

I recently met a real life Raëlian and I'm still kind of shook. Their brain is buzzing on just a different frequency.

I had thought the aliens stuff was always a particular American brianworm to dissuade against the idea our secret military stuff is evil. Oh you don't understand, the secret agents have to brainwash the public and hide secret tech, because it's dangerous alien stuff from another dimension. There was a big UFO boom in the 50s, and then again in the 90s, big conspiracy times.

What the heck is going on now though? Even everyday normal people are discussing aliens and UFOs and whatever. Are we just experiencing yet another cyclical fad?
