Edit: Oh I also picked up a copy of Mage: The Awakening, 2nd edition because of my theory that World of Darkness doesn't actually work together.
What do you mean by this?
The way I was lead to understand things was that the World of Darkness games could intermingle. Like you could have a Mage show up in a Vampire adventure and vice versa, because they're all built on the Storyteller system. But when I tried to do it ages ago, I couldn't figure out how those characters were supposed to interact on a mechanical level. From what I can tell, these games just don't really map onto each other.
Ah, so I think in world of darkness (sometimes called classic world or old world of darkness these days) the games were less mechanically compatible.
Mage the Awakening is part of the chronicles of darkness line (originally also just called world of darkness when they thought the old world of darkness stuff was going to be fully retired), and is close to mechanically identical to other games in that line (other than the supernatural powers work very differently).
I do think mixing character types in chronicles of darkness games is still a little rough though as the themes are very different (vampire is about trying to maintain your humanity and navigating a political power structure, werewolf is about hunting monsters and balancing your human and spirit sides, mage is about dealing with academic politics and being literally addicted to learning about matic, etc) and so having a werewolf in a vampire game is almost like having a D&D adventurer in a vampire game, even if adjudicating mechanical interactions isn't too bad.
