Love when the anime has actually good transfem representation, BUT THE CHARACTER IS TOTALLY JUST A BOY, GUYS!
and then an anime with canon "transfem" rep is just a literal fucking man.
I'm dead curious now for your thoughts on Senpai is an Otokonoko, please I desire to know.
Thoughts re Magne
I get that "the transfemme is masc" can be a really bad stereotype, and I wouldn't put that past the author, but I think Magne is kind of neat actually. I do not recall hullabaloo in-manga about her gender, she just sort of exists. Mostly outwardly masc, but long hair and she/her pronouns. I think seeing really atypical presentation respected in a fuckin Jump manga of all things is kind of neat. I can still remember the estrogenizing drag queen lady from One Piece's Impel Down arc, so yaknow. Progress?
but uh, Senpai Is an Otokonoko: My Crossdressing Classmate sounds like exactly the kind of standard issue low-quality gender-bender transbait I'd expect tbh. "Otokonoko" is a term I haven't heard in ages but roughly is "effeminate crossdresser" so my expectations would be through the floor. Like
[Aoi] is bisexual and does not mind what his gender is, and still wishes to become his first love, but he worries that she will be seen as odd by associating with a cross-dresser.
Instant dealbreaker seeing that kinda shit on the natopedia page.

Sounds like coffee undertones to me, name and shame
coffee undertones?
My coffee maker has one job - TO MAKE COFFEE! I am not subject to "coffee undertones"!
