Is this seriously where we're at now, where Karl Urban is going to be known for his role in the boys instead of as the best version of cinematic Judge Dredd?
It's harder to be known for a role when most people won't know you're playing the role.
the best version of cinematic Judge Dredd?
I hate that Dredd wasn't successful enough for them to make the other planned ones and start doing the weird stuff like how he arrests the literal manifestation of death for murder by trapping him inside a psyker's head. Judge Dredd is such a fun, if problematic, series with so many wacky and cool things that a grim cyberpunk cop vs gangster shootout movie just didn't even begin to capture the absurdity of it.
I want to see Karl Urban gruffly arrest himself for a petty noise violation on Christmas, because the law's the law. I want him to be the moon sheriff and ignore criminals in broad daylight because he can't legally operate in Mega-One's jurisdiction at the moment. Just the really silly stuff from before the character developed into a more rounded and pragmatic/moral character who would, in fact, go against the law when it was lacking in ways that hurt people - including non-human people like the aliens who were being farmed by Mega-One oligarchs for immortality drugs or something like that.
They announced the Netflix show years ago and there's also been no news for years
Dredd was also a really low budget movie, that's why it was set in one building, I can't imagine how they'd do stuff like Judge Death without putting a lot more money into it.
At least we also got The Raid: Redemption which was super similar to Dredd but with more flying elbows. If you haven't seen it give it a go. If you have seen it watch it again.
Yeah, I've seen it multiple times.
Funny thing is that Dredd was actually in production before The Raid, but because of multiple reasons including that the studio wanted it to be in 3D for no good reason, it got released the same year.
Whoever dreamed up turning a grenade and a fridge into a door sized shotgun was a genius, that scene is an all time great.
AOC and Bernie won't be needing their Gundam anymore
The Gundam is a symbol of a neoliberal hegemon stomping out any remaining resistance. AOC is working her way up to top ace in the Gundam pilot school lol
Karl Urban is Dredd! Alright?! The ONLY Dredd!!!!!
cries in sequel desire
Broke: Karl Urban is Eomer
Woke: Karl Urban is Dredd
Bespoke: Karl Urban is Reaper
People keep saying the boys are great but i bounced off the constant toxic masculinity of the group. Like specifically in season 2, a bit after he saves the team, they're still talking like assholes to each other. Im like, no change? Y'all just gonna roll with the leader who abandoned you?
I wanted to like the boys but watching grown men act like how these guys do was beyond stupid, rolling merrily past eye-rolling into actually angering me.
So yeah fuck the boys
Y'all just gonna roll with the leader who abandoned you?
spoiler
That point doesn't get any better as the show goes on lmao. Butcher keeps fucking up and putting everyone in danger and they find some way to keep taking him back
spoiler
Hugie keeps saying shit like, "I know he's got some good in him. No matter how much of a monster he is!", while showing Butcher's guilt at abandoning his little brother to an abusive parent. And I can't figure out if we're supposed to think that Hugie/The Boys are doing a "battered spouse" thing and not being able to get free of the toxicity or legitimately agree with Hugie that Butcher is redeemable...
Started watching it a week or so ago and... its edible slop but its definitely not great.
There's just enough to keep me curious but it is also an exhausting watch.
