He has a wife that nags constantly and a quiet young son and bratty teenage daughter
Tim plays a level headed common sense alpha male that plays the only sane man in a world full of 'kooky wokes'
He is presented as an average Joe despite living in a huge house and having some kind of petit bourgeoisie job like business owner or news caster.
I just looked it up, and you’re suuuper close. Allen plays a “stubborn” widower who owns a classic car restoration shop, with a young son and an estranged daughter (Dennings) who has to move back in with him. She’ll undoubtedly be a failure because she has a college degree in woke feminism or whatever, and he has to set her straight with his common sense Republican values.
Imagine if the show subverted that, and the reason is that she has a degree in CS and can't get a job because Google just fired 10,000 people.
Dennings is playing the daughter and it would be a stretch for her to play teenaged.

It's a shame he's in Galaxy Quest because I love that movie and the rest of the cast does a great job so I just kinda ignore him despite him being the "main character."

Such an impressive career. He's been a TV show hosting father, sporting goods store owning father, and now a classic car refurb shop owning father.
There was also a subplot where he was restoring a car in Home Improvement, so it's possible that it's all just the one character.
I can yet can't imagine anyone who would look forward to another Tim "Really I'm Just an Anarchist" Allen vehicle.
Well, Last Man Standing went for ten years, and I don't exactly think that the audience for explicitly conservative sitcoms has gotten smaller since it ended...
