Does anyone like Jimmy Dore? I think I've only agreed with a small percentage of the things I've heard him say.

His heart is in the right place, his brain is not. He reflexively sides with anyone anti-establishment and anti-war - and he does the Joe Rogan disclaimer "but what do I know, I'm a fucking dumbass, why would anyone listen to me". So I wouldn't take him too seriously, wouldn't take my opinions from him, but I'd also give him a bit of a pass - some comrades aren't going to know politics in and out, smugly looking down on them is bourgeois/niche politics. Leftist mass politics is about embracing and critiquing people like him, not excluding them.

The DNC and Clinton hate Tulsi, so Dore loves Tulsi. It's that simple. Don't go looking for depth in shallow waters.

"The DNC and Clinton hate Tulsi, so Dore loves Tulsi. It’s that simple. Don’t go looking for depth in shallow waters."

This is a great simplification of his position, Dore put his faith in Tulsi's anti war message since she was a serving military officer and sitting member of congress believing it gave weight to her position (however weak it was in hindsight), and after she endorsed biden he also turned his critique on her:

          http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/peace-and-prosperity/2020/april/02/jimmy-dore-challenges-rep-tulsi-gabbard-regarding-her-praising-the-virtue-of-us-military-service/

In one of the live streams he had after her endorsement of biden, he admitted the he felt fooled by her campaign. Sadly he never uploaded that segment to the youtube channel as I considered it one of his greater moments. This experience, combined with his knowledge of the Bernie campaigns internal drama (a reality that the Chapo community has yet to reconcile themselves with), and Bernies lack of action in the face of COVID all led to his current hardline anti-electoralism stance, and focus on promoting direct action and providing tools to the working class currently being robbed and oppressed by the ruling class. He has also switched retorical focus to regularly describing members of the progressive caucus as cowards for staying silent and deferring to democratic leadership thereby selling out workers.

Im not saying Dore is perfect or even that Jimmy will give you the deep theoretical basis leftist seem to crave so they can nerd out in endless discussion, but I find his segments valuable, and his moral compass true.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. I agree that Jimmy's moral compass is good and he has some brighter days. But sometimes he's stubborn and doesn't seem to take in information when deciding an issue. And he's a bit black-and-white with a lot of politicians - he was too into Tulsi and too harsh on her genuine critics.

Thank you for perspective. I wasn't dismissing him, just genuinely curious who his audience was and how many people here were fans. I recognize now that he is an ally.

Didn't she also take a hiatus from her anti-war presidential campaign to... literally serve in the military? Lol I remember being :thinkin-lenin:

Sorry, but that's wrong. Her campaign reached out to Bernie first, but he wouldn't take her endorsement - which may have been the right move, because she wasn't going to bring in new voters - and it was already past Super Tuesday, yada yada. Then she endorsed Biden. Bernie dropped out and endorsed Biden the same week IIRC.

I'm not a Tulsi stan by any means, she's a left-adjacent careerist, but she helped Bernie a lot more than Warren, even if Warren's politics are better than Tulsi's, and the Biden endorsement is not a point against her.

I heard that story as well but I believe it was debunked by Tulsi herself, apparently it was a family member who spread it.

That being said there was a lot of bad blood between bernie and tulsi's campaign at the end mostly due to Bernies campaign being run by neoliberal shit heels like jeff weaver, treating all the grassroots people and their obvious allies like trash.

Why is this sub stanning AOC's virtue signalling BS amendment? Theres still a poverty draft in full force in the US and it just got the 30 million evictions of new potential recruits. Would this amendment really have changed anything?

"Service guarantees citizenship" doesn't need twitch to function

A better take on this would've been asking why AOC is silent on sanctions, on imperialist wars, the US coup in bolivia. But takes time, during a pandemic where 30 million americans report not having enough food, to take care of the "military using twitch problem".

Not everyone is going to learn how to swim if you throw them right in the deep end. Not everyone is going to immediately agree if you offer the most comprehensive critique of imperialism.

Politicians have a mainstream audience and there's value to starting slow with stuff like "maybe the military shouldn't be allowed to recruit kids on Twitch." Why? Because it'd be an uphill battle even to get that passed, so we know a more comprehensive solution isn't going to pass, so the real goal here is to nudge that mainstream audience in the right direction without them writing you off. We need to get a lot more people on our side to accomplish anything significant, and this is a strategy for doing that. This is not all the left should be doing, but it's part of it.
