Like you wouldn't think it by the surroundings but it's actually kinda nice

Until I inevitably get burned out of course

"People are inherently bad" is an awfully reactionary take, but holy shit does working in retail make you feel this way - at least under an overbearing culture of self-centered consumerism. It does tend to vary depending on where you work though. Doing grocery or food service puts you in front of a firehose of people who for the most part will treat you no better than an automaton or their temporary servant. I had a gig at a pet store for a while though and it was noticeable that most of the customers had at least enough compassion in them to care about keeping an animal alive. There were still assholes, but the vibes were generally better overall.

I worked in a massive industrial warehouse when I was younger and I got some damn good naps in at work. If the warehouse is big enough there's always little nooks to build hidden forts

I'll always be too scared to do that because like you can't hear/see your boss walking near you when you're asleep, and you might oversleep and not get anything done

I once worked on the IT side of a shipping center and one of my coworkers bragged about getting a floorworker fired for sleeping in the restroom

So glad I left that job

I used to work security overnights. I slept every single night until I was eventually caught 4-5 months in and fired. It was awesome

The only job that made me actively suicidal was working in food service.

worked both, 100% agree. And some of them even let you listen to headphones so you can just kinda space out all day

I had the same experience. I hate to say it but honestly, the best job I've had was at an Amazon warehouse. Before that, I was working at a grocery store making about minimum wage and I was living paycheck to paycheck, and meanwhile I was constantly micromanaged and had to put up with customers. At the warehouse, there were a lot of shitty parts but I could afford to live and I was walking around too much for managers to follow me around and bother me too much. It was still soul-crushing and peak season was absolute hell though like I'm not recommending it by any means, I'm just saying that it's not just Amazon that sucks.
