if not somebody should create one!!

like a Firefox for dating.

if our communist comrades made it, we could slip in commie propaganda and sex positive stuff too. and you could still make money off of generic ads in the app that like, sex toy makers purchase, or cheap ads for like Democracy Now! etc.

Every time this subject comes up, the concern of FBI honey-potting also arises.

aw yeah I don't mean it for this website specifically or anything. just as a general different business model for a dating app that would suck less.

Apparently you can use hexbear DMs as a dating app, somehow, gotta be honest - yall are cool, love reading your posts, but I'm not sure if I ever want to be publicly identified as a hexbear user lmao this is my dirty secret

Fine okay some of yall need to also not be a creep about it. This is why I refuse to slide into anyone's DMs lol

There used to be a few, but legislative capture has made it just about impossible for new dating apps to clear the higher and higher hurdles to get off the ground.

Yeah, specifically the overlap with chat apps that make it very hard to have actual chat functions without a lot of established presence as a service already.

EDIT: For clarification, it is good to have age verification and other protections. The issue is that there's a lot of regulatory groundwork for any up and coming dating service to even begin competing with the established and consolidating dating industry giants, and some of that is by design of the giants themselves as they swallow up smaller companies.

I assume around age verification to prevent abuse of minors, or possibly stuff to avoid platforms being used for sex-trafficking? Or maybe not so altruistic, since we're talking about US-based companies.

I meant those, mostly. Yes, otherwise it's good to have safeguards against kiddie creeping and trafficking.

I mean, majority of people are going ti be on mainstream apps. Idk if you want an app that has very few users

I'd honestly rather an app that's just for Communists and maybe some very imperialism-aware anarchists, because I got sick of going on dates with people who thought they were leftists but then turned out to just be radlib intersectional imperialists

Not trying to be mean, but an app like that sounds like heaven for bad actors—both state and private. I wouldn’t want to be on a communist dating app, even though I fully agree the idea is rad. It just seems super unsafe to me, unless I’m missing something.

I think a lot of people are looking for, and would use, alternatives that don't try and get you to pay premium style fees for more matches/access/features, you know?

like if you advertised it as "no costs ever, free to use, unlimited matches/swipes/access" I think people would appreciate that and it could get big.

I tried Alovoa and it seemed not to work. Like the app itself. I can't recall the problem. Has anyone been able to to confirm basic functionality?

I just reinstalled it since I mentioned it again. Seems to work fine. It looks like they have a lite version as well.

Realistically, it would just be an online forum like reddit instead of a traditional dating app. But reddit already has those forums and they work pretty darn well imo. I've dated a few people off reddit and about half of the people I message are willing to give me a decent conversation.

Just generic meetup/dating forums. Depending on what flavor of people you want to attract will affect which one you go to.

I've met with 3 people there and dated 2 of them. I've sent out maybe 15 chat requests and talked with about half.
