Apparently she's related to the CEO of nVidia.... which is... just... like.... what?

There's 100% some backdoor anticompetitive shit going on and I'd wager that's a big reason GPUs are twice as expensive as they used to be.

fucking miners were driving up the price of GPUs

Did the price go back down after Jeffrey Epstein was arrested?

Yeah I think that was the justification they used for the continued high prices. Now as I understand it - it isn't really profitable to mine with a regular GPU setup... you need specialized hardware... so I don't think the increased demand is there like it used to be.

Lol after cth died reddit became 100% tech related and my political online consumption was moved to chapo.chat, this is a weird crossover for me but I'm glad to see it. The hysteria over the 30xx release was wild to watch, especially as someone who couldn't afford any of them. Super into PC building recently but I keep having to remind myself that 'I live in an society' and it's maybe okay to enjoy things sometimes even if we're destroying the earth in the process.

Just built my first PC this week <3

That's awesome, what did you build? It's a really fun hobby, and has utility, too. You can usually save some money building your own if you don't get sucked into the vanity side of it.

It''s a super hype month. The Nvidia 3080/3090 series "launched", immediately out of stock. In two days, Ryzen 5000 launches. On the 28, Radeon 6800/6900 launches. Still a big question mark if the 6900XT can match or beat the 3090, but it's pretty well expected it will at least be able to take on the 3080.

Probably the most tech hype I'd been on since the original Ryzen launch in 2017. 😅

Hell yeah, contrary to the opinions on a lot of this thread, I think these companies are doing super cool shit and I really think it's important for us to separate valid tech hype from the capitalist structure it operates in. I'm still torn though, I can't help but feel that mass production of these products is so destructive, not to mention the hyper exploitation of miners in poor countries... on that note...

I got a pretty good deal on an open box 5600XT, other than that it's the standard - Ryzen 3600, 16GB RAM, ASRock Pro4 MOBO etc. Really wanted to wait for the Zen3 CPUs, but I've been waiting for so many months now and I'm starting to really need it for work. Obviously waiting for the new GPUs - whether 3060 or 6600XT - would have been much smarter, but again, too long of a wait time. Still hyped to see what comes out!

No, they would never! Capitalist rigging a market to extract enormous wealth? What kind of mad conspiracy theory are you weaving. These are good decent people who are incredibly passionate about what they do, they just love GPU's and want to give you the best gaming experience possible.

The best thing you can do, is to just put this nonsense out of your mind, call your local representative and tell them to get government out of business so the meritocracy can fix the world.

[Su's grandfather] and [Huang's mother] are [brother and sister]. Or put another way, [Huang's mother] is [Su's great aunt.]

In the European kinship system, they are first cousins, once removed.

It would be kind of precious if they weren't both capitalist swine. If they'd been from the mainland instead of Taiwan, they might even be communists. Then we could unironically stan them and be pro-CCP gamers. *sigh* what could have been...

the parasocial relationships with these CEO's i don't get. and believe me, i am no stranger to parasocial relationships.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/j5eekj/the_rise_of_amd_how_one_woman_changed_the_cpu/

soooo much bootlicking and hero worship. at least the 2nd comment is "hey, what about the workers" there is a little pushback going on in there. to be fair the first one is about "giving everyone stock options" which is at least a tiny dollop of ownership. so i guess both of the top two comments are all right.

honey there has been a leak every other day for weeks. AMD has two feverishly-anticipated product launches this month. new CPU's in two days and new GPU's on the 28th.
