My favourite "civ is woke now" argument is that district placement emphasizes the local geography's influence on your civilization, which is marxist and woke. And like... how the fuck were you playing civ before? Even without civ VI forcing you to be more mindful of it geography is obviously always huge in a 4X. It's literally the first 3 Xs! And it's the 4th X in any game with remotely interesting combat.

They think the idea that geography and/or climate can shape a civilization is woke. Their idea is that civilizations and culture are something that I guess exists a priori as "good" or "bad", and "developed" or "undeveloped". The very idea that a bad crop yield or lack of local resources can shape how a society develops apparently contradicts with the reactionary worldview.

What the fuck do they think shapes a civilization? Some magically scarce yet potentially infinite "willpower" resource?

It's not coincidence that one of the Nazis' propaganda films was literally titled Triumph of the Will.

I think it's either full calipers, or very terminal econ brain. I guess when the modern world is so focused on spreadsheets, it may be easy to forget that there is a world that humans are forced to interact with.

Silly Marxist, history is about who believes hardest in the idea of race and the nation and brings it into being. Everyone else loses and has their stuff taken from them, and rightly so.

Yeah, it was...a very strange decision. They have Sitting Bull as their leader, Dog soldiers as their unique unit and Totem poles as their unique building. It's uhh...not great.

It's shocking to me that there hasn't been an Israel/Judea Civ in 6 iterations of the game. And yet, with everything going on in that corner of the world now, most of my hope for an Israel Civ in Civ 7 is mostly gone. It rather stupid, I think, because there is no other logical choice for a representation of Jewish culture (while there are many for Christianity and Islam). Those of us who want a Israel Civ do not necessarily support the modern Israeli government; but tend to be very interested in ancient Israel. Yet, I can only imagine the outcry if Firaxis added it now.

On a different note: I think Ukraine and Tibet are completely different situations. A Ukraine Civ would be absolutely awesome, and I'd love to see Firaxis snub Russia by doing this. Give them Volodymyr the Great as a leader.

As for Tibet, (also the case with Taiwan, Manchuria, and East Turkestan) there is no real controversy, except for one solely manufactured by the Chinese government. Firaxis, like most capitalist businesses, would rather get money than stand on morals.

It's worth noting that many Americans would welcome more Native American Civs or even civs based on states; but compare this to the Chinese government's reaction.

Just in case someone gets offended by my take: I have no issue with Russian, Chinese, Palestinian, or Israeli people. Their governments on the other hand? I do. Big time.

    emphasis mine lmao

I saw it so you should too

      ???

Tibet actually has a history of being a sovereign nation centuries ago, so for a civilization in the game you could base it off of that I guess. That's not the case for the other three. Like you could do the Manchus but they literally became China. It would just be weird.

To be fair to "East Turkistan" you could totally add a Uighur/Tarim Basin/Sogdian civilization centered around trade that would be awesome. Tibet would also make a great civ, had many wars with China for control over the Tarim basin, specifically during the Tang.

civ 5 had polynesia, so they could have a Taiwan city i guess. maybe the maori in civ 6 could be changed to be pan-pacific islander and they could also have a taiwan?

oh he meant 17th-19th century taiwan under dutch, ming and qing settlement? those civs already exist, they can settle an island

oh he meant taiwan under japanese occupation? that civ already exists, that's a warmonger penalty

oh he meant 20th century taiwan post civil-war under mainland GMD occupation? that's... idk

oh he meant 21st century taiwan under gmd/democrat leadership and flirting with independence? that's oddly specific. gonna need a Lao civ, a Sri Lanka civ, a Burkina Faso civ etc before that.

As always, this simply was the best CIV game. Yang was...problematic (chinese faction that uses mass-forced collectivism bc Sid is a libshit) but imo this game was less problematic than almost all the CIV games afterwards...especially with how they treated natives. Another thing is that it's definitely a massive CW with cruelty to "living beings" in general. There are "secret projects" that are like the wonders in CIV but with technological breakthroughs. One of these secret projects show a industrial farming facility with one of the leaders talking about "perfected, cloned human beings". As you can imagine, grim stuff worthy of a CW.

If you're unfamiliar, it's an old CIV; so you get support units, infinite stacks, etc. It also was the civ game where you could customize specific units and redesign them. Ocean colonization. Weird, theoretical technology. The entire planet is alive and it's immune system says you don't belong.

It's also the only Civ game that harshly, harshly criticizes Capitalism, like with Morgan industries. It also has a shitpost worthy secret project from Morgan; behold

I wonder why CHUDS don't talk about it. Maybe because they can't understand any of it?
