There's being critical and holding representatives to task, and then there's just being a useful idiot to a power-hungry group who is more than happy to enflame your grievances in support of their ascension.
Yeah, liberalism fuckin sucks. But fascism is worse.
the "overlap" is indistinguishable.
no one cares if your pin says dem or repub, if you like donk or phant, if your tie is blue or red.
the two parties are indistinguishable on all substantive policy.
whether youre a kid that cant get clean water and food, or a kid whose entire family gets drone striked, or a kid in a cage getting hosed with disinfectant, the two parties are the same
:biden-nibble: :vote: (delay full-blown fascism by another four years)
It was mocking Noam from the recent Bad Faith podcast.
I guess I mean I see posts here that are hypercritical of liberals but seem to almost have a goofy affection towards Trump. In the sense that I'm trying to turn more of my well-meaning but clueless friends onto better ideas, but chapo.chat is a giant leap. And functionally, our stupid dichotomy means being critical of liberalism equates to empowering fascists.
The problem is that while you're technically right, you're just kicking the damn can further down the road. Biden will crush the left just like Obama did, while a Trump win would not only mean WE were fucking right, but it'd finally end this fucking bitch ass democratic party for good. And dear God does the USA need an actual left-wing party, both for electoralism purposes (lel), and actual organizing.
Yeah, I realize a lot of it feels moot, just because the Supreme Court pick means the fascists can sanction their corruption.
In a weird sense, my dream scenario would involve Biden winning and Trump using the courts to usurp it. Then we've got ourselves the most relevant way to kick the rest of Americans into gear, especially if the Democratic leadership is exposed with another, "Welp, can't do anything about it."
as someone from the third world i dont see the diference between american liberalism and fascism when it comes to its effects on the rest of the world
The popularity of fascism and socialism both rise when liberal democracy faces a crisis and its contradictions become apparent to the people. If in response to this socialist ally with the liberals to stop the fascist, they will cease to a credible alternative (no matter how 'critically' they do it). This leaves fascism as the only movement offering a believable change from the status quo. This is not good for anyone but the fascists.
Let me try to reframe this from a selfish perspective (not necessarily an indictment of this community): I'm trying to get the fuck out of the US. I'm still not sure where to go, and I for sure don't have the money to do it. I feel my chances to a. accumulate the funds, b. use the delay to plot my escape, and c. possibly have the ability to leave the country, especially based on my politics, affiliations, search history (I was sooooooo paranoid when Covid hit and they shut down air travel that we were all toast) are better served without the GOP occupying all three branches of govt
Not to give credance to the false diecotomy that we have to choose liberalism or fascism, but tell that to the global south lol
this is deeply anti-materialist. fascism doesn't arise wholecloth from nothing. liberalism creates fascism as a defense mechanism when the contradictions of capitalism start to threaten the whole thing. the issue is, it runs away from the capitalists and eventually threatens to destroy capitalism itself. failure to understand this leads to all kinds of bad takes about lesser evils and harm reduction.
