Asking our marginalised comrades be very fucking careful during struggle sessions like this because you know shitheads like to take advantage during times like this. Particularly of the concern troll variety. I don't want vulnerable people being targeted.

This is the only post I'm going to make about this stupid thing.

Yeah, as far as I understand, it seems like a couple of our mods were shitty? (Please correct me if I'm getting it wrong this shit is so confusing.) I get the feeling it's something that could be easily capitalised on by wreckers and that worries me.

I'm having a hard time figuring this whole thing out. Like, I usually have a good bullshit detector but I am so confused at who is in the right and wrong lately. It's frustrating.

None of the mods were shitty, they just have opinions about the trajectory of the site they maintain and didn't communicate them effectively. Then a bunch of people read bad faith into the messaging and it spiraled from there.

A lot of the userbase enjoys react/cringe content, a lot of the moderation team doesn't, and that's been a pressure point for a long time.

It was interesting to me to note that I was disappointed but not perturbed by the US election results but the drama here has gotten to me much more. I guess it's because I care about this place and its users far more than I care about that absurd circus that they call liberal democratic elections, so maybe my priorities are in good order here?

My approach is to keep doing what I do, to steer clear of the drama, and to avoid throwing fuel on the fire. (Maybe deep down I'm a radical centrist? /s)

At the end of the day, I think it's just an unfortunate series of discrete events of drama that have occurred at the same time. If it happens to be driven by a wrecker or if a wrecker is attempting to take advantage of the opportunity that this situation has presented them with then that has no power over me because I'm just gonna be over here in my little corner, doing exactly what I've been doing, and I'm not going to get dragged into factionalism or drama or any externally-inflicted burnout because I'm just some weird little guy doing their weird little thing - can't stop, won't stop.

My solution has been to listen to dream theater and play armored core until it all blows over.

The consolation I take is that it appears the majority of the admin/mods are acting in what they believe is the community's best interests, and the wrecking/sabotage is opportunistic rather than planned, i.e. using the cover of all of this stuff to rile up animosity and take out personal vendettas.

The upshot is that once the dust settles, the wreckers will be more apparent/obvious and I don't think they will have made any substantial headway.

That's not to say that everyone who's running hot/has a grievance is a wrecker, so that's where the confusion/stress/uncertainty comes in for me, cos I don't want to think that comrades I've been posting alongside have just been waiting for fog-of-war before flipping and becoming hostile, or that the mod team was spiked from the gecko. But that's jacketing so I'm not gunna go there.

This is has been a ugly one. Easily the worst since VCJ. And what's worse is that it could have easily been avoided with the benefit of hindsight

Foucaults already replied with Egon's timeline but if you want my TLDR:

The root of it has been the admins/mods lack of transparency and overreach (both in the past and in this current incident), but honestly that kinda goes with the territory of operating a social space on the internet.

Additionally there's been a re-litigation of the site's age-old dichotomy between being a serious revolutionary org and being a shitposting chill-out space, as pushing towards the former is what is assumed to be the motivation for the admins overreach, but this time people are taking it really personally because the wrecker successfully got us to point fingers at each other and a lot of people have been catching strays.

RN it's probably best to wait and chill, Lyudmila will give us an update within a day or 2 with probably a better account of what happened and a plan of action forward. We can all decide what to do then
