Damn I thought this was about football/soccer and every phrase got more and more confusing. Took "timeouts" for me to remember that American football works like that and that makes your confusing comment just normal and sensible.

Do we know if the person who coined this isn't a chinese lib that thinks china is the one collapsing? They are delusional like that

It’s quite fascinating how far the human psyche will go to literally rebel against the eyes and ears. Libs in the US see & hear daily decay and call it paradise (or at best IRL glibly shrug and assure themselves it’s the best humanity has). Meanwhile Chinese libs see prosperity and feel doom. I don’t like being wrapped in the contradiction sack!!

That's where it started I think, this is a byproduct of youth thinking that the Chinese belle epoch was the 90s and early 2000s. They are anxious about international isolation, real estate bubble burst and of course the death of lib epicureanism.

Everything I searched online appears to be from Western sources claiming it's anti-PRC... though the social media in china doesn't ban the phrase.

I remember when things were kind of always getting better and cooler in the US, ended maybe a decade ago. Nowadays everything is kind of just rotten but painted gold, with every ideological used car salesman blasting 24/7 about how amazing everything is.

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.
