to be honest pfp help me distinguish people easier. often times usernames don't stand out and I don't register them as much.
that's the best part, with usernames there is less anonimity so if you keep being shitty you get found out, but with pfp's you notice that it's actually like ten super posters here and you keep noticing it's the same people.

Just IMO but I think it would crowd the screen too much. Right now I feel like my eyeballs are at about 99% saturation when I view the site. I'm also someone who likes minimalist web design so you can also take what I say with a grain of salt. I honestly wouldn't care so long as we had an option to turn off seeing pics or flair.
