It either uses internet or cell service to communicate your status so you can either send a message, text, or call. Like for fucks sake even shit social media sites have check ins and safety features exactly like this that don't require giving information to some random company; at least those shitty sites already had your info, this is just paying to give it away.

If you really want to see economic juxtaposition, Chicago is the place to be. Yuppies casually walking around Humboldt Park while gangland proclivities occur just a couple of blocks south and west. It's a city of blocks in the truest sense of whatever that means. Nice refurbed homes and apartment buildings north of North, shuttered buildings and vacant lots south of North.
The mixture of these two economic outlooks occurs when desperate dudes just do some petty theft. CPD is almost 100% hands off since the Laquan McDonald murder, so any police presence in this areas is all posturing, and the actual policing is almost always reactionary. Either harass the youngins on a off night, or only turn up once shit has gone down. Meanwhile yuppies start turning to shit like this to make sure their airpods aren't fucked around with.
