Private tracker I've been a member of for like a decade, plus a few public ones, whenever they don't have something, running through Transmission over a VPN on a file server in my basement.
"Give me the 1080p web rip, or yee walkin' the boards here, boy"
im basic and just manually pull whatever old 1080p rips off public trackers onto my plex server as needed. don't watch enough stuff to really be bothered getting into the automation side of things. TGX has been my go-to since RARBG was kill.
Jellyfin with an *arr setup. Just found out about Solarr today.
Is music on Jellyfin real? The software stacks people throw together always appear too brittle to me, I'd be afraid of putting all my music in a castle of cards
I only use Jellyfin for vids. So I can't really say.
tbh, that Navidrome combined with Soularr sounds like it would be a good combo for putting in a car.
There's quite a few apps that support it, but like books, it's not the main dev focus. Personally, I have a collection of about 8k 'albums' (including singles) that took like a whole day for Jellyfin to scan and index properly. Then navigating through it was always very slow. I leave video content to Jellyfin and use Navidrome for music because it's significantly faster and most apps that support Jellyfin also support Navidrome/Subsonic, etc.
i go to the piracy megathread on reddit. i go to the streaming section. i click on the goats until one actually loads and doesn't stop every 3 seconds
does it suck? yes. but i do not have the capability to download whatever i like for watching, so i am at the mercy of sketchy pirate sites and the agencies trying to shut them down
if you're looking for movies specifically and they didn't come out very recently i would strongly recommend seeing what your library can do for you, be that rentals or access to services like Kanopy, these are nice, if they have the sorts of things you want
If anyone needs iptorrents private tracker invites reach out to me via DM u know who u are
I've been in the private torrent tracker cabal for a decade so I mainly use those. I don't use the *arrs and just manually download what I want from the site and plug it into a torrent client on my server, which is hooked up to stuff like Jellyfin, Navidrome, etc
Yeah, its one of the gold standard hostable ones. The web interface isn't pretty but its not like 90s style software either. I use it when I'm at my desktop. Its easy to set up with Docker, scans things quickly, connects flawlessly to the player apps that I use like Tempo. I use Wireguard on my phone to use it like Spotify when I'm away. I also have it hooked up to listenbrainz so I can get a 'wrapped' at the end of the year and get music recommendations if I want.
qbittorrent, only public trackers because I don't have good enough upload speed to get into private trackers.
I was on a subreddit called r/megalinks which was pretty much what it said on the tin. it got threatened by the admins so the mods jumped ship to self hosting and I migrated with them. then they had to move domains and shut down new registrations because it was getting too popular.
so I basically got grandfathered into a private mega link sharing forum by complete luck
I switched from torrents to Usenet years ago and never regretted it once. Makes everything much easier and simpler.
hey, i'll try to find a guide or throw together a guide post in the near future because i'm going to bed
please remind me if i forget and if anyone is still interested. I'll try to find some existing guides tomorrow

I use rtorrent/rutorrent on a couple invite only sites. I don’t download much tho because I don’t g*me, and don’t really watch movies or tv. My kids aren’t really tv/movie watchers anymore either. Maybe a movie or two every couple months to a 12 year old HP workstation stuffed into a closet.
